Ruby Color Question

Post by Wurlitzer »

Does the shade of ruby vary from guitar to guitar ? Look at how dark and rich this one looks...I haven't seen one in person yet, I have to go by pics online.

a beautiful color...

Ruby is the bright red photo in your example. Photos of ruby can be drastically different depending on the lighting. Have a look in the gallery and you will see good examples of this.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I have seen several Rubys in person. IMO the 370-12 Leftie in the photo is an early Ruby finish, not a one-off color.

There are a few Ruby Ricks on the Register with photos. Here are the ones registered in reverse chron order. IMO, from what I have seen in person, the early ones in Ruby finish color are a bit darker than the more recent ones.

Metallic colors are sometimes hard to gauge because of how they reflect light. Jeff Scott took this photo of his new 4004L in Ruby. Notice how "light" it looks on the headstock, and how dark it looks on the body. It's all the same color, but the sunlight is reflected just right on the head, but you don't see that reflection in the body. Tilt it back or to the left or right, and it will change.

There are a lot of pictures of the Ruby instruments displayed at the winter 2012 NAMM show, starting on page thirteen of the NAMM 2012 therad here:

The pictures were taken by different people with different camers, so that should help you see what Ruby looks like in person.
