The only repair the factory logs show is dated 5/12/1958 and says "Stabilized bridge and damaged spot touched up".

It's fantastic.... and aging quite gracefully, IMHO.

Here's a Q and A from the ebay auction for this guitar. Q is from a rabid Lennonizer:

Q: That's crazy that u got that gtr! Imagine having the money and not caring about the collectible value and making the exact mods paint etc as the Lennon 325! Then you'd really have an exact 1958 Beatle Rick! Let me know what it sells for I really hope u get your price because its worth it and I think you are right that Johns 325 is possibly the most collectible Gtr.on this little planet. Thanks GT Nov-15-12
A: GT: Potentially some folks might modify a guitar like this but I don't think it too likely. The really really cool thing about it though is just how much the little guitar itself has that unmistakable tone from the Beatles recordings, even unplugged!

I think this thread could use a few pics of the original article before it vanishes into a collector's vault:

Nice to have that V109 factory repair insight thanks John. Really looking forward to that book of yours :)

I wonder what it means to stabilise the bridge? Something to do with rattle in the saddles perhaps?

And thanks for linking those photo's Ron. Very timely indeed :)

Wow.

The Beatles are, arguably, the worst thing that ever happened to the electric guitar. For all the popularity they created for the instrument, they seem to have created rabid fan-boys with no sense or self & individuality, or any respect for the instrument.

First, Its the owners instrument and its theirs to do with what they want.
Second, The Beatles are innovators, and easily the best thing to happen to the guitar and bass (also James Jamerson).
If it wasn't for The Beatles, Rickenbacker wouldn't even be in existense today. Half of their modern models wouldn't be around either.
I'm not trying to start a fight here, but I'm just saying that The Beatles were and are way more popular than Rickenbacker was/will ever be.

Dang, a guitar like this deserved to be played. Almost certainly won't happen.

Incidentally, the only thing it's lacking is a case. We know that period correct would be an old combo400/450 grey/silver one. In the short term I've recommended the seller buy a 325c58 case, as this is much more sturdy and a far better fit than the old combo case. Problem is, he can't find a c58 case. So if anyone can help, it would be put to very good use.

soundaffects in Great Britain has an original 325c58 case in ebay.

Greetings Peter
All you need is love and a rick !

If it wasn't for The Beatles, Rickenbacker wouldn't even be in existence today. Don't get me wrong, I love the Beatles. Buuuuuut, if they kept Rickenbacker alive how come the 4001s model didn't outsell the 4001? It would seem people didn't really care what Paul was playing.

Ivan, go play your Rickenbacker.

I love the Beatles.....I just don't appreciate the rabid effect they have on people that makes them do absolutely illogical things to innocent vintage guitars, or even think about doing such things. Oh well....pointless thread drift here anyways, since I would hope anybody paying $99k for a guitar has the brains not to mess with it. (no guarantee though, of course!).

If the Rolling Stones didn't ask such stellar sums to see them live, their fans would be doing the same to vintage guitars

Awesome looking guitar this is! It could use some more knobs though
