New Bass Day!

Post by Baker69 »

After having seen the posting several months back stating that Rickenbacker were re-commencing the production of lefty 4003's, I have waited in anticipation and have just received delivery of a brand new 4003 Left Hand in Mapleglo! :D

It's a superb bass in all respects and has been well worth the wait, although the price tag did hurt a bit! I didn't imagine they would appear quite so quickly here in the UK but there are a few about if you search for them.

Quite a different animal to the 4001 that I have been used to, both in tone and playability. The pickups are very powerful on these things! The neck is a fair bit chunkier than the 4001 but am quickly getting used to it. The factory supplied set up isn't bad at all I think the string height is a fraction high for me but that is not a fault of the set up as it's understandable that they have to use an average set up as a starting point.

It doesn't quite get the classic 4001 biting snarl with the vintage switch mode but the tone is all there. I've been all over the bass and the build quality and finish are first class, (what else would you expect from a Rickenbacker these days?). Very slight tail lift already but that's par for the course as we all know.

Can't wait to gig with it the weekend plus will be using it at our band rehearsal tomorrow night.

Will post some pics soon. :D

Thanks. :)

Yes, Mr Hall makes a very nice bass these days. Really good they started making lefties again, I know that there aren't that many of us out there but we are all very appreciative.

Thought I'd just post a rear shot as well - nice woodgrain!
