This is Jim D'Addario here. . . .I find these threads very interesting. Unfortunatley there is a lot of myth and fantasy in some of them.

. . . .

D'Addario is also the only company that makes its own wire.
This simply isn't true. Mapes is one of the biggest wire producers in the world, as well as a string maker. According to this page, they are suppliers to GNI, C.F. Martin, Gibson, Fender, D'Addario, D'Aquisto, Peavey, DR, SIT, Ernie Ball, RotoSound, GHS, Black Diamond, Dean Markley, and Vinci.

In the early '90's I had to develop a way to repair printheads in banking printers that were in use at the time. After sourcing and trying as many different types of wire as I could, I'd found that heat treating .010 guitar strings worked perfectly and best by far. However it was not going to be cost effective to buy single guitar strings, so I gave D'Addario a call. I had a good relationship with them when I had my music store. It was really a huge favor of them to direct me to Mapes after I explained what I was doing. Besides the quality at a reasonable price and being made in the USA, it's another the reason why I'm loyal to the D'Addario brand.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)
