The truss rod cavity has looked like this since i bought it a few years back. I know it's not correct but what caused it and is it something that someone with my limited abilities can fix? Is it affecting the way the truss rod works? I can't seem to get the bass side to flatten out, always has a slight bow. Bowing to your superior knowledge.

Conceptually, the truss rods should work as per normal, even with the crooked aluminum block.

The rods simply need to be pushed back in the channel. No problem here.

You could loosen the nuts a bit and then tap the rods, evenly, back into place.

They actually don't look like they are pushed up very much at all, to be giving you issues with keeping her straight. I can't tell from this foto but are the rod tips bent back toward the back of the TR cavity?

No, not bent, thank goodness. I thought about tapping them in but wanted to see what you guys say first. Never have been able to get this neck to completely straighten, thought this might be the cause of it.

Just double checking, but you do know you can't just crank on the rods and expect the neck to move on these old Ricks, right?

If you have further concerns about separating the the fingerboard from the neck after you loosen the trussrods put a clamp up close to the nut maybe use some leather or soft wood as a cushion so you don't mar the neck or fingerboard.
