Agreed, they are SO much more than that. But people have to start with them somewhere before they find the Gold in the rest of their music.cjj wrote:Probably not, and while I agree that Smoke On The Water is probably enough to get 'em inducted, if that's all someone knows of Deep Purple, well...harrek wrote:There is someone in the world who doesn't know "Smoke On The Water"?cjj wrote:I'm guessing that, unfortunately, most of "the public" is too young to know much about Deep Purple...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

That's Eddie Trunk from That Metal Show on VH1. He's no fan of what he calls "the Rock&Roll Hall of Shame" due to their ignoring hard rock and heavy metal bands every year. I can't say I blame him, especially given the fact that the R&RHOF also ignores progressive bands....except long after they've been watered down musically.cjj wrote:Uhhh... Congrats to Rush. Love Rush, seen them 6 times. Now let me be the devils advocate. Like Eddie Trunk says it is the R N' R Hall of Shame. Let me see who is in there who should not be because they are not a R N' R artist:
Abba
Madonna
Donna Summer
Beastie Boys
Run - DMC
Grand Master Flash
Nat "King " Cole
Jelly Roll Morton
Jimmy Cliff
Wanda Jackson
Miles Davis
Bill Monroe
Bob Marley
There are many others I could have listed.
Now some of the groups or artists above I like and some I don't that is my personal taste, but the fact is jazz, bluegrass, country and reggae are not rock and roll they are there own genre. The many blues artists I don't have issue with cause that is where R N' R came from.

You'll regret public voting once they vote Justin Bieber into it!cjj wrote:Probably happened because, for the first time, the public was allowed to vote, which seems like the way it should be...

Well, I do hope so, but if the vote is anywhere like X-factor there's quite some room for manupilation!aceonbass wrote:By the time he's eligible, no one will remember who he was.Electrostring wrote:You'll regret public voting once they vote Justin Bieber into it!

I have to disagree. The Beasties were very rocking at their inception, and continued to actually play a lot of the instruments on their recordings. Run DMC introduced an entire generation of new Aerosmith fans , not to mention their first single was called "King of Rock" and lovely miss Wanda Jackson practically helped invent Rock and Roll ,she at least opened the door for females in the rock world. Bob Marley ... roots ROCK reggae .. never lost sight of the fact he was raised on early rock and roll. but I digress , none of this excuses the fact that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is an absolute joke of an institution.I do side with Eddy Trunk08 Ric 4003 wrote:Congrats to Rush. The Sex Pistols (more than likely John Lydon) referred to the Hall as a "p**s stain." That's the term I like to use.
