Yeah, I've been thinking of ditching the vintage tone switching so those positions will be available. At least until I put the 3rd pickup and its associated pots and switched in...jps wrote:You'll find a way.cjj wrote:Hmmm, another switch combination for my 4004... Now how to fit it in....
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Tony C is the only other guy here (besides John and Bell Hall) that I know who understands what I'm talking about when I say, that I've never played another bass guitar that will change it's tone as radically as a 4004Cii, just by using a different plucking hand technique, touch and position.Kopfjaeger wrote:Joey,
OK, I'll bring my 4004 as well as my drop D tuned 4003 to rehearsal on Friday. I won't say a word about the differences in the two instruments other than the drop tuning. I'll gauge what their reaction to the different tones are and proceed from there.

Jeff, a shot of the back of the 4 control+switch mod?
Re: 4004 Tone Question. . .
It would have a bigger control cover, obviously. Just dreaming and scheming. The 4 control version came to me while watching the USGP, noodling on the bass while Hamilton was on his way to winning the race.
Re: 4004 Tone Question. . .
Yep,got one like it,only with a full size, manly toggle switch....
Re: 4004 Tone Question. . .
I figured you already did it. LOL I will say moving to separate tone controls with HB1 pickups gives more tones to play with. I was happy with it on my 4004C.jps wrote:It would have a bigger control cover, obviously. Just dreaming and scheming. Here's the harness you need for that 4004, Jeff. Just did this for a customer's 4001. I'm also supplying HB1's with the lead wires modified for coil tapping. The tone caps are NOS .022 radial Ajax "Big Blues" with 500K CTS vintage style pots and 500K Alpha push-pull pots for coil tapping.
