Bogus auction?

this item may not be a real auction ... the picture is lifted off the internet ... and a zero feedback seller ...

I emailed and asked for the serial number and he said he would only give that to the winning bidder ...

this one scares me ...

Scares me too. Personally, If someone is selling a new bass, with no minimium, they should explain their motives for selling. It's not like the guys a dealer moving extra stock.

I've emailed him as well and asked for pics and the serial number, if he's not forthcoming I'll email Ebay and see what they say.

Only disclosing the serial number, and general condition after the close of the auction is I'd say a reasonable reason to withdraw a winning bid.

I never bother with auctions where a stock/manufacturer pic is used. If you are selling on ebay you should at least have access to a digital camera for pics. He could easily get a serial # from another auction or local guitar shop.

the seller refuses to let me look at the bass ... this must be a bogus auction ... it looks like he has a scam running ... take the money and run ... he most likely does not own any of those items ... somebody shut him down ...

At some point we were all zero feedback sellers, and I for one only recently got a digital camera. I would take a cautious approach for sure, but... Could be a dealer new to the 'bay, only time will tell. Certain sellers with known bad habits or scamers reveal themselves quickly. This group has a habit of being overly skeptical about every thing that pops up. Not everyone out there knows the various nuances of Ricks or even has a command of the english language. Armed with all the knowledge of this forum, we can't even agree some of the time on what a certain guitar is. I for one search for mislabled auctions and unknowing sellers to score a deal.

Yeah, I understand all of that but if you ask to look at something (like Jeff did) and the seller refuses then something is wrong period.
Mislabled auctions are the best.
An unknowing but cooperative seller (even with zero feedback) and some fresh pics make all the difference.

I have bought from zero feedback sellers before ... this seems different ... notice all the bids from zero buyers as well ... now that seems strange ... the more I look at it the more it seems wrong ...

Jeff is right. One of the advantages of living in the UK is that the country is small. I would go from Devon (the south west tip) to virtually anywhere in the country & back in one day. I would never buy a Ric without personally going to get it & paying once I'd seen it. You chaps in the States can't do that, but, like Jeff, if you can & are refused, then some thing is seriously wrong.
