Mitch:
A 'reissue' horseshoe p.u. it is. Actually, there are two gentlemen in this Forum for whom I recently built 're-issue' horseshoe pickup coil & magnet assemblies. Your pickup will be exactly like theirs, except for one minor cosmetic variation. Also, I hope Jared's horseshoes are a bit taller than the genuine Rick reissue ones, which I deem to be, for lack of a better word, too squat (clearance: 6/8") to perfectly accomodate my design in which polepieces are gaussed by two bar magnets, unlike the original which uses four magnetic slugs as polepieces and thus can be made suitably short.
I hope I'm making sense here.Image

I thought about that tripleneck but it is probably rare and very desireable. I would try not to dismantle any "special" instruments to make horseshoe pickups. There are a bazillion simple Rickenbacker and Electro lap steels out there that are not worth much more that $200 to $300.

I made sense of, "A 'reissue' horseshoe p.u. it is."

So, how does it become so? What do you need from me; a down-payment, my serial number, a fake passport?

I'm gonna watch Ted's auction, but if it goes up 5 more bucks I'll buy a plane ticket to Portugal.

I've seen you work and I am impressed, but yours are just cosmetic aren't they? They're not magnatized for the original Ric-Surround-O-Sound are they?

Also... How does arc-welding and water equal hardcore porn?

Mitch I use a squarewave AC TIG welder for aluminium joints. The AC plus H2O (and 250 amps) will definitely get your attention!

My slippers are cosmetic. I think the magnetic field and hi-gain p'ups alters the tone. My 4003S/5 FG has this set-up.

Thanks to Kendall for those genuine RIC horseshoes!

Mitch:
Just stay put - eventually my pickup will find you, haha.
Seriously, my 'reissue' pickup uses bar magnets to gauss the polepieces on it because reissue horseshoes proper are not magnetized.
Hey, Jared, can you give me an idea how tall you're going to make the horsehoes for the project at issue? Hopefully a tad taller than 6/8". Also, let me know the exact location, or distance between, the bobbin mount screw holes. Thanks.

Sergio-

I can make the height to just about any spec you choose.

The screw holes are off the standard RIC mounting plate, but of course can be changed if desired. OR you can email me a pdf template or drawings.

If he wants it chromed he is SOL. No good chrome guys here.

Jared:
Many thanks. A 7/8" clearance is just fine. As for the the mounting screw holes, 1 1/2" between their centers is okay.

Sounds like there's a conspiracy going on here.

I'm liking what I'm hearing... Until I hear the price! =)

I know of a plater here in Cleveland who likes doing small runs of small parts, just perfect for the shoes. Do you want your shoes gold, silver, nickel, copper, brass, tin, bronze or chrome plated?

Sergio-

7/8" from the top of the p'up? Or from the top of the mounting plate to the bottom of the 'slipper'?

Yes, from the top surface of the mounting plate to the inside surface of the "slippers". No problem if said distance should be greater than 7/8", of course.

Hey Mitch, here's some horseshoe pickups for you to feast your eyes on:

From top to bottom, a genuine re-issue HS pickup without the shoes (those large polepieces are magnetized); one version of the original 60s HS pickup with the magnetized shoes; and a project HS pickup I helped put together for a Forum member some months ago. Those are re-issue horseshoes, the mounting plate was made by said member himself, and the black thing on the left is my coil/magnet assembly.
