Wow, I honestly had no idea that Born to be Wild was recorded with an Esquire. I always figured it was a 381!

Very nice combo, John.

Yeah, I'm kinda with CJ, I've never really heard an Esquire before either. I've kinda lead to believe it's like a Telecaster's bridge pickup with compression. "Shapes Of Things" is another Esquire song.

Guys, if you've heard a Tele, you've heard an Esquire. The differences are really quite subtle:

- The right (treble) switch position bypasses the tone control, so you're getting a touch more sparkle than normal.
- Some claim that the reduced magnetic pull (from having no neck pickup) changes the tone. No clue on this one.

Stephen Stills is another Esquire player. I've seen footage of him playing it with CSN. Here's a quote from an interview from Author: Willie G. Moseley, Source:Vintage Guitar Online, Date: June 10th 1997

VG: Tell me about some of your favorite pieces.

SS: My favorite piece is my '53 Esquire; I've always liked one pickup and two knobs...

Even better, one PU, two knobs, one threeway selector switch! I love my Doozey!

Stills' Esquire (set to MUD) can be heard on "Wooden Ships".
