New Bass Day! Ricky 4003

Post by Metal Jockey »

Well, after much contemplating and a bit of research, I finally pulled the trigger on a new 4003 in Jet Glo. She just arrived today. It looks, sounds and plays wonderful. I realize it's not saying much coming from a Squier VM Jazz (which still is a great bass for the price), but I don't know how anyone can't like a Ric.

Thanks to all those who offered advice on my original thread where I inquired as to whether I might not like a 4003 having never played one. I got a chance to play one at a local Sam Ash dealer two weeks ago and loved it. I had my heart set on a Jet Glo and thanks to one of our forum members (Thanks, Scott!) I was directed to Dave's Guitar Shop in Wisconsin where they had one left and at a good price. Bryan Butler at Dave's was great to deal with.

The only thing I see myself doing for now is changing the strings and removing the pickup guard. I can play just in front of it, but I think if it wasn't there I'd probably play right over the PU.

Quick question - do the strap locks on the 4003 happen to be locking Schallers? They look identical to the ones I installed on my Squier. It would be very convenient if I could just switch my strap over to the Ric.

Here's a pic:

Looks great! Congrats!

Yes, the strap buttons are made to fit Schaller locks...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Congrats! Yes the strap buttons are Schaller, but have a machine thread in the Rick tradition. They are one piece without a separate screw.

Edit: I guess I type too slow, as CJ beat me to it. :D

Thanks guys for the nice words and also regarding the Schallers. That's one thing to cross off my list.

Sorry about the pic. I tried "rotating right" but it still came out on its side. Grrr..

Yes, I know what you mean. I'm over there as well. And I know it's all subjective but this thing just feels right in my hands and sounds great to my ears. Hey, to each his own. 8)

Congrats - and welcome to "The JetGlo Club"! 8)

When you take the p/u cover off, you may want to install a bezel cover*. I have put them on several of my basses, and they're great.

Available at Pick of the Ricks, and 3bay.

ahhhh.......new bass day. Haven't celebrated that day for a long time.

Congrats on your new JG!....

....and imho, the only way they could be any better would be if they'd offer the CB option on 4003's :)
