SITE GOING DOWN FOR MAINTENANCE

CJ, thanks for the tour. Things do look a little different with different browsers. Who knew. Well we knew but it is hard to create something that works will all browsers equally well. I prefer the Firefox look at present.

Well, my wife does website design, so we have lots of computers, running different operating systems, and a lot of different browsers in order to be able to check that things work reasonably well for whatever someone might be viewing the site with. So I tend to check things when they don't look quite right. Should have done that before I posted, but the coffee hadn't kicked in yet...

I do really appreciate all the hard work that goes into running this forum. From the admin to the mods you guys have a thankless job, so I want to thank you all for all that you do behind the scenes to keep the forum running and strong.

That being said, I'm feeling quite old looking at the new design. With all the muted shades of blue, I find it a bit more straining to read the various fonts on the site. Sorry for my negative comments but I found the old colors easier to read.

Edit: Hmm, OK. I see that in FireFox, these words are IN the red banner and are just fine. In Chrome, they show up under the banner for some reason. Looks like Internet Explorer puts them under the red banner too.

Old version of IE? IE looks same as FF on my Win 7

Sepp there will be tweaking and so forth over the course of time. I have old eyes too.

I have already been too generous with Gil's time so it may take us a while but we will do what we can. I have made monitor adjustments that also assist with the viewing.

No style options, I see. I liked the warm colors of the old site as it looks better to my eyes and also helps differentiate this forum from all the other out there.

That's how I've always felt. However, I appreciate that hard work that goes into maintaining the forum, so I'm sure I'll get used to the new look soon. Had I know it was going to change, I would have taken a screen shot of the old look.

Ah, OK. I figured out the IE9 thing. If I widen the window enough, the links will jump into the banner. Same thing with Chrome and Firefox. So, it's a matter of not handling the window width correctly...

There are some strange interactions between Firefox and the Microsoft System Restore. If you do a system restore shortly after updating Firefox, you may not be able to do any further updates to Firefox. We've also seen Firefox prevent the creation of restore points after updates. The first is a known issue, see the bottom of this page:

The second, prevention of restore point creation may be related, but doesn't seem to happen as often...
