Faker Alert on 3bay

Post by rickyfricky »

I think the jack plate tells the tale on this.

What say you?

Might be nice if you included a link or the auction number

Ah, don't worry - the auction number can be inserted into the search field at ebay and then we'll find it.

The jackplate doesn't show a number, but maybe it got replaced at one time or other - when they sprayed it that colour!

The jackplate also reads "STEREOSOUND", instead of "Rick O Sound".

Not sure the inlays look correct either.

Bueller . . . ?

The jack plate is from a copy bass, but I believe the rest is genuine..with a really bad paint job. 4001 copies don't have genuine RIC tailpieces on them, and this one does. It also has an older set of Kluson tuners from a 60's Gibson bass on it too.

That is not a real Rick tailpiece/bridge, Erik.

How so? I thought you were saying that the tailpiece on that bass was a real one? :?

I'm saying that the Greco copies were the ones using "Stereosound" jackplates and also had tailpieces that were strikingly close to the real deal. The models that actually had two output jacks were even closer in visual appearance. I'd be more inclined to believe that this is a copy with a genuine TRC but I can only base that on what I see in the photos.

The tailpieces on the 4000 copies are NOT strikingly close to the real ones. They're just like the AllParts ones. I find them easy to tell from the real deal, while many apparently cannot. The bass in the auction has a genuine tailpiece on it. The inlays look correct, although the finish on the fretboard has been sanded off, altering their appearance. Seeing under the truss rod cover and pickguard would settle it though.
