Hello all,
I know this has been discussed in other threads and I've read all that I can find but I need some advice here.
The truss rod on the D,G side of the neck of my C4 has run out of adjustment. I've backed the adjusting nut all the way out and there's still a couple thousanths convex in the neck on that side. On the E, A side the neck is straight and can be adjusted for some relief. I have a set of Roto SM 66 100-40 strings on it at the moment.
Obviously fret buzzing is an issue unless I raise the bridge to what seems to me to be abnormally high.
I thought I would install heavier strings on the D,G side to give the neck some bow that I would then adjust out. Is this something Rickenbacker should deal with? How high over the 12th fret should the strings be for a good buzz-free action?
This is the first 4001 I've had in many years and it's become the only Bass I play now. It's in use every day and due to the changing temp and humidity here in the Northwest, I find it needs constant small adjustments. In rehersal, after an hour in my hands it needs re-tuning.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Dan

First: the truss rods aren't anywhere close to being fully independent. Add relief with the E/A rod and subtract it back out as desired with the D/G rod and see if that helps.
Second: best to contact RIC if it's under warranty.

I'd try a different set of strings.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!

That's not so unusual, for me, even on the three Zon basses I used to own.Hawkins77 wrote:...due to the changing temp and humidity here in the Northwest, I find it needs constant small adjustments. In rehersal, after an hour in my hands it needs re-tuning.
