Recent Roger

I have to confess a certain amount of envy here. What a hoot it would be to sit in with Roger onstage.

Re: Recent Roger
Thanks, Jim, for the very cool live clips!
I only wish the quality were a little better on the first, but, hey, you can't have everything!
It's great to hear that Roger's still jangling!

Re: Recent Roger
What is Roger playing in these videos? Certainly not his signature or an older 370-12-anyone know?
Re: Recent Roger
Could that be a Fireglo 360/12 (not sure what year)?
Re: Recent Roger
It is a 360/12. At about 0:02 he turns slightly and you can see that it only has 2 pick-ups.
Who knows? It could be he borrowed somebody else's guitar, or it could be one of his.

That's definitely one of his, as you can see him playing the same guitar in many clips on YouTube. Looks like Fireglo (although the stage lighting makes the guitar seem almost orange in the video). I'll leave it to one of our other experts to tell us what year the guitar was made and when Roger acquired it.

Re: Recent Roger
And he is plugged into a Roland JC120. His favourite amp since many many years ago I think.
Re: Recent Roger
And who are the great musicians he's playing with? Are they in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet?

Re: Recent Roger
OK then, what was Roger doing all dressed up with no place to go? How did he wind up with this motley crew? -Just wondering.

From Wikipedia:
The Rock Bottom Remainders were a rock and roll band consisting of published writers, most of them both amateur musicians and popular English-language book, magazine, and newspaper authors. The band took its self-mocking name from the publishing term remaindered book, a work of which the unsold remainder of the publisher's stock of copies is sold at a reduced price. Their performances collectively raised $2 million for charity from their concerts.
The band's members included Dave Barry, Stephen King, Amy Tan, Maya Angelou, Cynthia Heimel, Sam Barry, Ridley Pearson, Scott Turow, Joel Selvin, James McBride, Mitch Albom, Roy Blount Jr., Barbara Kingsolver, Robert Fulghum, Matt Groening, Tad Bartimus, Greg Iles, as well as professional musicians Josh Kelly on drums, and Erasmo Paulo on saxophone. Founder Kathi Kamen Goldmark[1] died on May 24, 2012.[2] The original band members collaborated on a book about the band, Mid-Life Confidential. Published author Al Kooper also was a member for some time.

Re: Recent Roger
Hi:
Does anyone know why Roger doesn't use his signature maple 370-12?? I first noticed that he would use a Fireglo or Jet Black when he played in Europe several years ago. Does he simply "rent" whatever is available-- because I know that he hates to pack them on any plane

No idea, but he probably knows lots of people everywhere and "borrows" rather than "rents." And while i love to see/hear RM playing an RM, I also think it's great he's not "married" to one specific guitar sound and look. Although for most people 360/12 v 370/12 and FG v MG is really picking nits aint it? lol!
Re: Recent Roger
My understanding is that Roger only brought 2 guitars to Europe; the 2 Martins. Since he now does not play his Rick very often, he most likely picked up a loaner/rental for the Europe gigs. They traveled by cruise ship to and from Europe and that's another reason that they packed as lightly as possible. Roger has had a problem with stolen Ricks in the past, too. Better to lose an off the shelf model, rather than the limited edition.kvalois wrote:Hi:

Re: Recent Roger
I know Roger lives just outside of Orlando, FL in quite a house......you can see part of it in some of his videos taken at home. Makes me wonder who guards those precious guitars when he travels.....
