Pageant is one of my most fav R.E.M. albums - maybe David knows what guitars PLB used on Begin the Begin?

I just noticed the R.E.M. Timeline have an FB page. The cover picture's one I hadn't seen yet... double Ric content as well!

Well, I'm currently in Todos Santos, Mexico attending Peter's music festival down here (http://todossantosmusicfestival.com/lineup), so perhaps I even can ask him tonight... 8)

Peter's been playing with a lot of band during the festival, and guitar wise it's mainly been the Gretsch and his Eastwood 12. Yesterday be played some mandolin with Kevn Kinney, and also some dulcimer! He also did a interesting job on drums(!) on Robyn Hitchcock's Listening To The Higsons the other night.

Does he know how to end it these days? A couple of years ago he looked kind of lost when the song ended

Thanks, would be cool if you could ask him. Live he played the song on his Rickie, but the album version sounds way different - when did he get his LP exactly?

Didn't get a chance to ask Peter about Begin The Begin. He had actually made comments to other people that he wasn't that interested in talking about R.E.M. matters now, "I'd rather talk about what I'm doing now", which I guess is understandable.

I did however (and you can imagine how cool this is for a combined R.E.M./guitar nerd) get the chance to play peter's Gretsch, which he has previously used with R.E.M. on a few tours and albums. It was not strung with 13's like his right, but probably 11's or so.

Apologies for the holiday look, Peter looked cooler with that guitar (this from solo set):

Also worthy of a mention was Peter's performance with Kevn Kinney, where Peter played both mandolin and dulcimer. After I requested it from Kevn before the show, to which Kevn said he'd have to "check with the boss (Peter) if he wants to do it", they performed Kevn's "With The People" with a few odd R.E.M. lines thrown in for good measure:

Hey, Peter's Gretsch - how awesome is that? I mean, who cares about hat, shorts etc? Lucky arse! :D

Did you make the video? I quit doing that, as it somehow makes me enjoy the songs less when I am busy recording them
