What shop did you buy it from?
Re: problematic truss rods 2012 special edition 4003
The Music Shop in Southampton.
They had 3. Mapleglo, Fireglo and the Jetglo which I bought. Had my eye on it for 4 months. Was made redundant, so used some of the redundancy money to make myself feel better.
Apparently they were waiting over a year to get those. The flaking paint could have been down to temperature shrinkage, I don't know. Just want to flatten that slight bow on the G side.
Really frustrating, but such is the modern world!!!

I should have used my bassist 'grip' to paralize him
Re: problematic truss rods 2012 special edition 4003
or knocked him over the head with it....it might loosen the rods lol
Re: problematic truss rods 2012 special edition 4003
Thankfully i have sorted my issue with the truss rods, to be honest i dont know how the hell they managed to adjust the rods at the factory??? i have never seen the nuts so close to the wood at the cavity, the the tool is the correct tool for the job and rickenbacker should ensure that all basses leaving the factory are fully adjustable by the user, owned lots of 4003's and never had this issue, luckily with patience and taking my time i inserted a large flat head screwdriver under the nut's and slowly but steadily pushed the rod up slightly to allow the tool to slip over the nut , it was a tense moment as i had visions of that fretboard popping off!!! apart from that issue the bass really is a good sounding 4003 plays really well and i love the walnut burst, it is a very neutral colour, the rest of the workmanship on the bass is of a high standard i did notice some bubbling of the chrome under the bridge though!! that i can live with as it is not seen. i have been offered another walnut burst by billy at G.G. but the reason i chose this one was the tone, so i am keeping it, it just sounds too good, as the truss rods are working fine i am happy with that. if anyone is reading this at the factory please ensure future models can be adjusted by the user without resorting to dangerous maneuvers with screw drivers thanks. cheers for all the replies guys. George

That's a good looking bass George.
Re: problematic truss rods 2012 special edition 4003
cheers mark, the photos don't do it justice, much nicer in the flesh, and what a growl she has for a new bass.

+1 on that!godber wrote:That's a good looking bass George.

cheers jeffrey.

George, glad you got it sorted out. If you didn't do this when prying, you will be a lot more comfortable if you use a clamp (with protection!) to clamp back-of-neck to fretboard to insure the fretboard won't pop off.geofio wrote:..... luckily with patience and taking my time i inserted a large flat head screwdriver under the nut's and slowly but steadily pushed the rod up slightly to allow the tool to slip over the nut , it was a tense moment as i had visions of that fretboard popping off!!!
Re: problematic truss rods 2012 special edition 4003
Thankfully did not need to use much pressure to get the tool over the nut, just wish Rickenbacker would ensure that the basses leave the factory user adjustable without out this kind of stuff on a new bass.
Re: problematic truss rods 2012 special edition 4003
I would point out that you actually don't know that RIC didn't ensure the rods were adjustable. Truss rods are under tension, and tension can cause movement. Any time from when the bass left the factory to its arrival at your house, the rods could have moved.geofio wrote:Thankfully did not need to use much pressure to get the tool over the nut, just wish Rickenbacker would ensure that the basses leave the factory user adjustable without out this kind of stuff on a new bass.
