Sorry Mitch, I'm quick on the draw!

The RI horseshoe is my weapon of choice (My main basses are a Burgundy '79 and an Autumnglo '81, both with 'shoes) and since they're nearly impossible to get, I jump at the chance to get more...

I do still have the original hi-gain from the '81, but I'm not sure if I want to part with it. I think I want to keep it so I can put the bass back to stock if I should ever want to.

"Weapon of choice..." How á propos.

You are wise not to have disclosed your location in your profile. =)

"This is Mitch, a young man in middle class Utah. He has no 'shoes. For about 80 cents a day, you can sponsor someone like Mitch, or one of the many unfortunate ones like him."
If it ain't broke, break it, then fix it.

I'm lower-middle-class. It's only 57 cents a day.

I know this thread has been around a while, but I just registered. I bought a '79 4001 at a pawn shop for 180 bucks a few years back. It was in great shape, except the neck pickup was cutting ou on me. I sent it to the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop and they rewound the pickup and had it back to me in about 3 weeks. I think the whole job cost me about $90 and Seymour Dunncan Himself did the work! Hope this helps.

For $90, I hope it works out well for you too Javier.
You could have gottem a new Rick neck pickup for $75 and the price would include shipping.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

Yeah, I realize that, but I wanted to keep the pickup that came with the bass.

$90 for a rewind?? You could have had me rewind this pickup for nothing, Javier. That's right, nothing.
I'm not suggesting a professional pickup builder should charge nothing for a rewind job, of course, nor that magnet wire comes cheap. It's just that $90 seems way too steep for a simple rewind. As Joey points out, a new Rick bass pickup costs only $75, which is a good basis for comparison. Just my opinion.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

Chalk it up to inexperience. That, plus like I said before, I just didn't want it to be screwed up. Anyway, I may have overspent on it, but Ithink it was worth it to have mybass in good working order.
