Calling all 4080 owners!

Jwilli: The doublenecks are quite unique. I am wondering why you sold them.

If anybody is interested in buying one of these monstrosities, the Music-Go-Round in Charlotte, NC has one hanging up for display. It's a white one that looks a lot like Geddy's 2nd. Decent condition, from what I could tell, but I didn;t get a close look. I went in hoping they hadn't a clue as to the worth of a 4080. Unfortunately, they did
The store owner wanted around $3000, which sounded reasonable (and unaffordable) to me.

Re: Calling all 4080 owners!
I just bought myself a 1978 Burgundyglo 4080 4/6 with Grover bass pegs in damn near mint condition for $7000,simply because the price seemed right.Even the case is mint. There were purportedly 100 or so of these made from around 1975 extending into the early 80s ,of which 49 are now registered on this site.Of the 49 remaining there are only 3 Burgundyglo's made in the 70's one of which I have here, and 2 made in the 80's. The bass indeed sounds like a 4001 on steroids and I do feel I got a steal on a real fine piece of rock 'n' roll history here.

Welcome, Scott. You also win a prize for the oldest thread resurrection!
Don't believe any production numbers you are told. Only the folks at RIC could tell you for sure how many were made, and they ain't tellin'. Anything else is a guess. But the 4080s are pretty rare, no doubt. We had one fellow here for a long time who specialized in collecting them. Haven't heard from him in quite a while, but always enjoyed his input. Many of his collection fill the pages of the chapter on the 4080 in my book.
Enjoy your 4080!

Re: Calling all 4080 owners!
Thanks Paul, but it's also a given that this thread will only get resurrected as one of these gets flipped, and considering how many are likely out there it won't be too often.I certainly have no intention of selling this just to get my 7G back and it really looks like it got lost in some studio closet for 40 years,no wear whatsover. It's a buyer's market basically now on any instrument one fancys, so now's the time to just grab that maf before it goes up another $5000!

Hmmm
The 11-82 Burgundy 4/6 listed in the register is a bit odd. The photo is actually of my 1975 one in front of my old Ashdown stack.

Well you can't say he didn't follow the classic "buy low sell high" line of thinking!
