Hudson's Purpleburst 4005

Post by 86kubicki »

Does anybody know the story of Mark Hudson's purpleburst 4005? Does it actually exist? Has anyone ever seen a pic? Was it a refin or a one-off custom job? Here's Hudson's purpleburst 350 from Mike Park's site:

That sounds right. I believe JH said that Mark Husdon had some custom Ricks made in purple a long time ago. To the best of my memory, one of them was a 4005. The purple was to match mother Hudson's favorite purple scarf, or so I remember. The Parks pic was the first time I had actually seen one of them.

Mark's mom lives about a block away (Seriously). Should I go verify the scarf story and see if it still exists? LOL

Stranger things have happened. Heck you may walk in and the 4005 might be sitting by the fireplace.

If this 4005 exists, I'd really like to know if it was a new custom instrument or if it was an older bass that was refinished. It was built from scratch, maybe a new 4005 series isn't so far fetched...

At the time the Hudson's got their Rick's(the 70's)4005's were still in production. I think they were made up into the early 80's. They weren't big movers then for sure. I remember seeing a fireglo one on the wall at Big Dudes Music City in Kansas City for over two years!

According to Mike Park's web site, the purpleburst 350 is from 1993, and there is also a matching 370. If the purpleburst 350,370 and 4005 were all from the same time period (early 90's), I wonder if the 4005 was built or a refin? Anyone have a line to John H. to get the story on this?

I think the 4005 only made it to the early 80's. Perhaps it is a factory refin if he does in fact have one.

He is listed here http://personal.nbnet.nb.ca/mccorp/bassartists.html as having a purple 4005.

Um, so in spite of being Goldie's ex and Kate's namesake, I guess I missed the whole thing. My subscription to Tiger Beat must have lapsed by then.

A couple of other Purple-Burst RICs were made too. A couple of 620s, I believe. Mark only got one of them. I'm thinking that the other went to Joe Perry......
