Eddie! You've got to let this go...it's not a healthy obsessionk43rover wrote:JakeK wrote: I have no idea as to whether pickguards on the new versions were specifically designed for the project or if they were left over from when the V series ceased in 2001.
Judging by some of the comments on the very recent f-hole guitars, looks like the factory have finally started making bespoke guards in limited quantities rather than using (often ill-fitting) leftovers. So these may well be new.

Re: Mike Campbell's 350 - Neck Width?
That's an important piece of information: square neck heel.JakeK wrote:According to sources who have observed both Campbell's guitar and the "back-up", both guitars have a square neck heel, ala the 325 reissues of the era (which includes the V59, V63 and the JL signature model)...
Well, not quite exact: the original had a Bubinga fretboard and the 350V89 has a Carribean Rosewood fretboard.JakeK wrote:...and the new 2012/13 version(s) were supposed to be an exact duplicate of the original.
Thanks, Jake!

I still don't see what the neck width has to do with the amount of strings... you totally lost me there!LenMinNJ wrote:Well, we're talking about the 350MC and 350V89, which are both 6-string guitars.
The recent Popeyeglo 330S one-off has a square heel 350 neck, and was left-over from the Petty guitars. Although different width, there's a connection to 350 again!LenMinNJ wrote:That's an important piece of information: square neck heel.JakeK wrote:According to sources who have observed both Campbell's guitar and the "back-up", both guitars have a square neck heel, ala the 325 reissues of the era (which includes the V59, V63 and the JL signature model)...

Re: Mike Campbell's 350 - Neck Width?
The headstock for a 12-string guitar looks a lot different than a 6-string guitar. I want to build a 6-string guitar, so a 12-string neck won't help me even if it's the right width.Electrostring wrote:I still don't see what the neck width has to do with the amount of strings... you totally lost me there!LenMinNJ wrote:Well, we're talking about the 350MC and 350V89, which are both 6-string guitars.
Do you have a link for that guitar? The recent Popeyeglo 330S one-off has a square heel 350 neck, and was left-over from the Petty guitars. Although different width, there's a connection to 350 again!

Also, Len, if you're looking for more specs on this guitar, Campbell and his guitar tech Steve Winstead said that the original guitar's body is thicker for more sustain. It's similar to a C58 body, but made from maple instead of alder.

Thanks, Jake. You can see the thick body in the Rolling Stone interview where he plays the 350MC and tells its story.JakeK wrote:Also, Len, if you're looking for more specs on this guitar, Campbell and his guitar tech Steve Winstead said that the original guitar's body is thicker for more sustain. I didn't know it was made from maple rather than alder. How did you know that?

I still don't see what the amount of strings have to do with the neck width and profile - I think you're completely missing the point...LenMinNJ wrote:The headstock for a 12-string guitar looks a lot different than a 6-string guitar. I already linked to it above; you replied the neck width was 1.68 or something like that

Besides the wider neck width I'll also need a non-slotted headstock that has just six tuners.

Re: Mike Campbell's 350 - Neck Width?
There's nothing reworked about it. We did completely new, full CNC programming for this instrument, both body and neck. Even more the shame should we decide not to produce it.LenMinNJ wrote:It's possible they did all that for a one-off for Mike's custom guitar, but if they were to go into production, they'd need to make the neck correctly from scratch, instead of re-working 660 neck blanks.

You are preaching to the choir here John... Since we are drooling over the possibility of having one of these in our own collections...johnhall wrote: There's nothing reworked about it. What would be the minimum order to bring this into regular production?
200 units? 500 Units?
I understand that this is all theoretical at this point. Not to worry I won't hold you to any response...

It's not a matter of units. We have all the business we need.
