truss cover and guard cloro options on a 76 RIC 3000

Post by ricky3000 »

I have a May 76 jetglo 3000 with black truss and guard.
The guy I bought it from said he bought it new in late 76 tried to play it a few times and put it away.
I happened to be on the bay the moment he listed it and snagged it up using BIN button. there is barely a scratch on it that didn't buff completely out.
the thing is a 9.8 to 9.9 condition
every one of these that I've seen in the color glo finishes had white guard and truss covers.....yet mine has black? Could it have been ordered that way?
or did these items "have" to have been changed out somewhere down the line?

Btw, the neck really needs to be adjusted....having never done an adjustment on one of these
pre 84 deals is scaring the **** outa me based on the condition of the thing I really don't wanna muck it up!

Oooooh!!! sounds fabulous!!!!

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the 3000 and 3001 basses (probably my harking back to my bolt-on neck days!) Yet another design classic from the company we love!

Can you post some pictures? There's a few Jetglo 3000 bases in the register. Is your already posted?

Great basses -- and a bit on the HEAVY side!

Does your TRC list the model number (Model 3000) on it?

If it does I would surmise it's original to the bass.
Watch those teeth, Marlin. I'm not sure we've properly sedated the beast . . .

Plenty of these have black plastic. Early TRCs are plexi and later moulded. I've seen black plastic with Mapleglo, Jetglo, White, Walnut (trans & burst) and of course it can easily be swapped out for other colours.

That was a nice bass, have you got some pics?

I'll shoot a couple of pics tonight of it along side of my '78 azureglo 3000
They do feel a bit heavy for their size but it kinda adds to the solid feel overall of it.
The truss cover on the jetglo does say model 3000 on it so I guess that means it could be original.
i spoke with the seller a bunch and he came off like a guy who simply wanted to learn but really never did. So i really don't have any trouble believing his story of the history of the axe, plus it's condition is definately an "underbed" classic....it's just that , again I've never seen ric use anything other than white for the guards and truss's
Now on my Azureglo I did change the truss and guards from white to black using an old RIC guitar truss moulded with raised lettering and installed a
black guard that I believe I bought from a forum member here about a decade ago ACEONBASS??
the blue black combo looks out this world.

Getting my Azureglo ric for christmas has really re-kindled my love of these RIC basses.
or should i say "Anti-RIC" basses?

Haven't posted anything yet in the registry so that one must belong to another.

Here's a few pics of my 3000's
I love the classic guitar shape of the body and the Lennonesq style of the headstock.

Very nice. They look to be in beautiful condition. Mine, not so much...

My 3000 gets more comments and questions from guitar & bass geeks than any other instrument I own. As in, "what the hell is that?"

My 74 MG 3000 had a black pickguard, it was cracked. I put a tortise shell on it, changed the knobs, and since I will keep it until they bury me, am very happy how it looks and plays.

I have a 1978 3001 that I just love. Even more so than my 4001 or 4003. They don't tend to get a lot of love out there...

I am lusting after your Azureglo one!! Nice collection sir.

Looking really good. There are several May '76 3000s here on the site! Would be interesting to see how close yours is to mine.
