High-tension roundwound strings

RotoSound Swingbass 66's. I actually use the Billy Sheehan version with the slightly heavier gauge E string.

I just put a set of the Roto's 66 on my 4004Cii... liking them so far. now to see how long they last.......

Daddario 45-105 feels stiffer than the rotosound swing 66 (to my fingers anyway). A different sound too..

Thanks, guys. I've had the same issue that others have had with the Rotos dying almost instantly. I'll check out the D'Addarios.

I've used them for many years, but never took note of the tension. It'll be interesting to A/B them with the DRs.

When I needed to tune one of my 4001's the C# F B E, for a heavy metal band I was in, I'd used a set of GHS H304 Heavy Boomers .050 to .115. Though I'm not really a big fan of GHS strings they worked out well for this tuning.

Yes and it was one of several songs I would have liked to submit for consideration for a a track on a RRF CD, but the reason why I won't, is something I don't want to get into here. Has nothing to do with the genre of music.

Try the new D'Addario 50's "balanced tension" set. They are a thicker gauge than the standard "45's" set, so higher tension overall, but the the relative gauges are more similar to RIC stock, in that the D and A strings are a tad lighter comparatively.

I want to try these new balances sets by D'Addario. Will probably have to order them online. Who knows when or if music stores will carry them. I haven't seen the in a music shop yet. When I ask about them, no one has any idea what I'm talking about. Funny when they say, "We can order them for you!" That's when I say, I can do that myself.

I've seen them in a Denver GC and I think Premier Bass Guitar will soon carry them as well. I've heard of them in a Music-Go-Round. I think because of D'Addario picking this baton up, it's really starting to catch on (and ignorant GC employees will finally know what I'm talking about).

As an impulse buy, I grabbed 2 sets of the .45-.107s at Music-Go-Round. I normally don't shop there, but I'll pop in from time to time to see if they have any used Rics. As I was leaving, I noticed that they had all of the new D'Addario balanced tension string sets for 6 string and bass guitar. The EXL170BTs I bought were $20 in the store. Just Strings has them for $12.95. I put them on my Fender Jazz and I'm really liking the feel and tone. Much better than the floppy DRs I had on it in similar gauges.
