I need a livingroom/jamming amp. :)

Post by Kingbreaker »

:D Here's why:

After years of lurking here in the basement as an observer, I'll be getting my first Rick 4 in a few weeks from POTR. Complete with pre-installed VVT mods. Some forumites may have already seen it, in fact - it's an MG 4004cii, December 2012, probably displayed at the NAMM show.

Re: amps, I need a monster amp like a hole in the head. As an apartment dweller and Livingroom Legend, I'll be using headphones for most solo practicing. My price limit is $400. I figure that will get me enough watts and speaker acreage to play with others from time to time without breaking the bank. Also predicting some gigs in a largely acoustic/folk context.

At the moment, the frontrunners are various combos from:
- Hartke
- Ampeg
- TC Electronics
- Ashdown (This is probably a stretch for me)

- Also considering the mini-stacks from Ampeg.

how about the Line 6 Studio 110? check out its features and you may be able to pick one up for a reasonable price. It has stereo input and headphone outputs too.

I use a small Traynor which I bought for rehearsals and have used for live radio and small-room gigs. I have absolutely no complaints with it and like the tone variations I can get out of it. It's my fourth Traynor amp and they have all been excellent. This one seems to be the current version of it.

I have an old (80's) Marshall Bass 12. It's really too big for what you're looking for; can't turn it up enough to
burn the tubes in without rattling things off the walls. Does sound good, though. I've been looking at small Carvin
combos for that reason. They should be in your price range, especially if you order one direct. Plus, since they're
Solid State, you don't have to crank them up to make them work. In my case, I have a couple of basses that
really should be played through a SS amp anyway (definitely not my Rickenbackers, though!).

Gotta put in my plug for the Acoustic 260 (or newer version is the mkII). Less than 3 feet tall, less than $300.00. 100 watts, but don't fear, it has a headphone jack for home but is beefy enough for a gig.

I got a CUBE not long ago. $99 if I remember, lots of settings and with battery you can take it to the beach!! Works great in apartments or where neighbors are (too) close.

I've been looking at these lately, seems to be the best bang for your buck. Lots of good reviews. $299 out the door at Sweetwater music with 18 month same as cash.

Markbass Littlemark Combo. Theyre common used and sound great for the money.

I have dual Fender Bronco 40 amps w/ric-o-sound to split the pickup channels, one to each amp....they're nice little combo bass amps with lots of flexibility and good sound....price is around $250 for one of 'em.

Fender Rumble 75? The specs are excellent and its got 1M Ohm input impedance, if you ever happen to play through a piezo pick up. The cabinet is actual plywood and hey, its a Fender!

I picked this Vox T 60 bass amp up from a Craig's List seller two weeks ago.... 1 x 12" and a tweeter horn
This is the Korg version from 2005 era ... not the original T 60 from the Beatles days

Nice little home size (or coffehouse size) bass amp and I love the vintage look with the AC30 style grill cloth

For quiet practising at home I use a Line 6 Pod X3 hooked up to my pc audio interface so I can play along with music. I like being able to create patches using the variety of classic amp and effect simulations on the pod to match whatever style/sound I'm looking for.

The amp says Manufactured in China on the back of it.
Markbass introduced a lower priced series of amps at the NAMM show called, Black Line, which are made in China. The regular Markbass line is still made in Italy.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

I think GK and any vendor/dealer using promo material from GK is still using old photos previous to the return to US production.
