Just bought a 350V63 on Musicians Friend for $924!

Post by mborkum »

Musicians Friend is a mail order house and long time authorized Ric dealer. Every so often I peruse their listings and come across a good deal on their "used" instruments, which are often customer returns or "scratch and dent" items. Yesterday I went to their site and did my usual "Rickenbacker" product search, sorted low price to high. Typically the first instrument listed is a 620; yesterday it was a 350V63! I immediately called the sales number and they confirmed that it was indeed in stock at that price, but as a "level 4", which means "needs repair". They couldn't tell me anything more specific about the condition but, as a confirmed Rick-a-holic, I pulled the trigger anyway at $924 delivered. I have no idea what to expect when the box is dropped off (literally) on my snowy Boston-area driveway next week but I'll post photos upon arrival. My hope is that the low price will make paying for reasonable repairs worth the cost, but I guess I'll find out!

A couple of things I forgot to mention...
1. it's a Jetglo
2. I have no idea if the case (or any case) is included
3. worst case, I can probably sell the 3 toaster pickups, TRC, and other parts on eBay for pretty much what I paid, assuming it actually arrives with the pickups, TRC, and other parts!

Welcome to the forum, Michael!

Please post some photos of what arrives in that box; there's lots of great advice to be had here about repair and replacement, depending on your needs.

+1!

Be sure to let the box and contents come up to room temperature before opening!

Ironically, when I ordered it the salesperson said there may be a delay in shipping it out due to "inclement weather". She said she didn't want it to arrive "damaged". You can't make this stuff up!

Well, hopefully that means you bought something that's worth worrying about it getting damaged...

yeah, no kidding! Looks like I'll just have to keep waiting a bit longer to see what arrives. This is currently posted on their site... Argh!

Weather Impact On Expedited Shipping
Severe winter weather is affecting UPS shipping service in areas of Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. Unfortunately, at this time, all shipments have been temporarily suspended from our Kansas City Distribution Center. We are working closely with UPS and will resume shipping operations as soon as possible.

after a few delays in getting it shipped it's set to arrive on Monday. I'm going to work from home that day so I don't miss the delivery. I'll post some photos and give an initial assessment soon afterwards...

Guitar arrived today. Double boxed with original Ric shipping box on the inside. Carefully removed contents and silver reissue case was inside. Carefully opened case and found the guitar. No scratches, cracks, or other signs of defects or tampering. Serial number indicates it's a 2012 model. Mint. All hardware as it should be. Plugged it into amp and electronics (tone, volume, blend) seem to be working as expected. Will investigate later to make sure truss rod is ok, etc., but cosmetically and electronically seems to be as-new. Case had original contents minus warranty card.

Here are some photos...
