JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!
Re: I need a livingroom/jamming amp. :)
Ooops, sorry, didn't see the part about it being for a bass. I use a Line 6 and headset and run it through GarageBand on the rare occasion I do have a borrowed bass in the house.
Re: I need a livingroom/jamming amp. :)
Not mine. It says "Designed and Assembled in the USA". Bob Gallien got tire of spending so much time in China trying to deal with the QC issues that were popping up on other forums and moved production back here. I for one was glad because I've always really like GK. It'd be nice if Ampeg got the message too since having endorsers like Billy Sheehan jump ship can't be a good thing. Anyway, GK has a bunch of really great new gear out in the last 18 months, so check 'em out.rickenbrother wrote:The amp says Manufactured in China on the back of it.

Dane, thanks for letting us know that GK production is now completely back in the USA. I've always liked their gear that was made in the USA.

Last year I purchased a used USA made SWR Workingman's 10. Perfect for home use and piossibly a small club with use of an extention cab. Check out my original review: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=404867

I would go for the Line 6 studio 110 or even the Line 6 LD150. I know the LD150 has a headphone socket and 3.5mm CD/MP3 input socket, I assume the 110 is the same.
The 110 is possibly the best choice over the 2 due to its compact size, however if required the LD150 is good enough for small venues.

If it weren't for your price ceiling I'd suggest a MarkBass Minimark as being ideal. Not inexpensive but far from some really pricey small combo amps. I feel the price was justified, especially after all the years I have had it, and the range of uses I have put it through.
As to keeping it under $400 the suggestion of the Workingman's 10 is an excellent one.

Doh - my OP was a bit misleading. I don't actually need stereo in or headphone out - I already use a Scarlett box into my PC for that and recording. My priority is good tone and decent volume. Still, good features to have.
This looks very interesting!aceonbass wrote:I'm partial to gear made her in the US, so when GK moved production back here I picked up one of these...http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ ... nAodnxQAwA

Re: I need a livingroom/jamming amp. :)
UPDATE:
So I got a chance to try out some amps today.
1) TC Electronics 250 watt 15''. Didn't care for the eq, the "toneprint" feature seemed kinda gimmicky.
2) A few new Ampeg combos. . . whatever the 1 x 12 is called. The one I tried sounded good but the construction felt flimsy.
3) Ampeg vr micro stack - the little head + minifridge at 100 watts. I liked them a lot. One of them was used at $300. Did not provide quite the low-end thump I was looking for.
4) Gallien-Kruger 1x15 / 200 watts. USED, $300
- This one was the pick of the litter. Capable of annoying everyone in the store and making the guitars stands buzz from sympathetic vibration. . More importantly gave a lot of real bottom end at controllable volumes. The ampeg ministacks gave more grind (which I could never quite dial out). While I liked that tone, it isn't my Holy Grail. I was testing through a MIM precision, to eliminate as many variables as possible.
Would the GK be a good deal at $300?

That depends on which model, and how new it is. My GK 200 watt 1x12 has a bunch of great features that older GK stuff doesn't have. I also got it new for $325.00 with free shipping and NO tax from RMC Audio, which is where I've gotten all my new GK gear for the last couple years.

I have had an Acoustic B260 mini stack for several years and I really like tone and portablity it offers. I use it at home and at church. Fills the sanctuary really nice with deep tone. Is 100watts also...... Is great for home and other gigs.

Re: I need a livingroom/jamming amp. :)
The trigger has been pulled: Gallien Kreuger MB115-II

I decided to go for the 15" over the 12 because I seem to always prefer the 15" tone over smaller speakers no matter who made the amp. It's also due to the fact that this one is scheduled to arrive about the same time as the bass, whereas the 12" is several weeks backordered.
Thanks for all the tips!

I just got a GK MB112-II and love it.
I have been through a bunch of amps in the last year and nothing seemed to do it for me. I even special ordered an Ashdown that I loved the sound of but it was over rated watt wise and weighed a ton
I can barely put it past 2 in the house and last weekend I jammed with a band for the first time in years. this amp was very laud at half volume.
I am getting the MBP115 as soon as it is available which will give me 400 watts of power I dont necessarily need. the MB112_II weighs like 30 pounds..you almost feel like you are going to wing it over your head whenn you pick it up....lol
glad you like your also

Yeah. . .. I need 200 watts like a meth addiction, at least at the moment. But, headroom is good - both literally and in terms of future use.
