I'm new to RIC basses and need string advice
I see you guys like mainly Pyramid strings it seems. I'm recieving my first RIC bass soon and I think I want to try flatwounds on it. It's a 74 4001. I've played both flats and rounds on diff RIC's before in the music store and loved them both. But I'm so new to RIC's that I really don't know exactly what to do. All this stuff w/ 'tension" etc. I don't want to eat a $50 set of strings! Could someone point me in the right direction please?
Oh, and if I do decide to put rounds on it, does it matter what kind? I typically use Elixers on my other bass, and I'm very happy w/ them. But it could be a whole new ballgame on a RIC, I just don't know.
Thanks!
Jason

I just put a set of TI Jazz flats on my 4003--switched them over from another bass. Wow, beautiful sound, much like McCartney's Sgt. Pepper era. The Ric bite is toned down slightly, but it now has more of a vintage sound. They are as quiet as a church mouse when sliding up and down the fretboard.
The TI's really seem to be the cream of the crop for flats, over others I have used (Rotosound, Fender Nylons, Ernie Ball, etc). They are extremely smooth and very, very flexible. The lighter gauge makes them a breeze to play, in my opinion.

or
Chromes

I like them both, but the Chromes are a lot less expensive.

Buy it before someone else does.
