Redneck 8 string
Hi all, I'm new to this forum and really don't know where to post so hope its OK I started a new thread. I am hoping someone mite be able to help! I have an 8 string Redneck bass and owned it for 10 years or so, I am just now discovering its rarity and looking for any info I can, I will register it on the register as soon as I can take some pictures. Any info will be much appreciated, thanks

Yep one just like that, I acquired it in Germany when on tour over there from the UK, it was hanging in a music store that endorsed us, I showed interest in it and was given it for a really good price, only ever gig'd it a couple of times as it is really headstock heavy but it always looked the biz sitting amongst the back line but wasn't ever played to its full potential . Thanks for the reply I will search the forum but the only thing I've found so far is a thread on tom Petty's guitarist owned one. I will post some pics of mine as soon as I can.....I hope its of interest to some! I found a post on another website saying only 12 made? This is getting interesting

Now that's a nice introduction!

Welcome, Paul! We'd love to see some pictures of your bass, if you don't mind.
Mike Campbell and Tom Petty were given a pair of redneck basses some time in 1987 or 1988. In 1992, Mike removed the octave strings and had it set up as a 4-string, and used it heavily for studio work between 1992-1998. According to Campbell, Rick Rubin always requested Campbell use it whenever he played bass. Rubin said it was the best sounding bass the band had.

Redneck 8 string
One of those Redneck 8-strings would compliment Kenny Howes' Ruby 12-string bass in his arsenal !!!
