Makes you wonder what the motivation was for the shooting doesn't it?

It's a terrible thing. I've read alot about how nice a guy he was to his fans.

He didn't play my kind of music, but I respect the talen that he had.

It's a sad day for musicians everywhere

Coincedence that it happened on the anniversary of John Lennon's murder?

Strictly a coincidence on the date, but I heard on a local station here in Detroit that the guy was (And I quote them, for what it's worth) "An angry Pantera fan who was mad at Dime for breaking up the band". Apparently he wasn't aware of their 20th Anniversary Tour plans.
Dime really was a good guy, he would hang out and have a drink with a fan, he was a true music lover, and understood what it's like to BE a fan. Never considered himself "above it all". My prayers go out to all of the people involved with Pantera or Damageplan, and all of their fans, especially Dime's brother Vinnie, who was the drummer with both bands.

I live here in Columbus and have been to the Alrosa Villa a time or two. It is one of the loudest venues in town, which is why some people inside didn't hear the gunshots (or recognize them as gunshots) and others thought at first that it was part of the act. Absolutely horrible. Thank God the cop was close by when the call came in. The first shot was fired at 10:18 p.m. and the officer was inside by 10:20, which probably saved a few lives.
You know, bands break up every day. Sure it's upsetting, but it just takes a very disturbed individual to take it to this level. As the police said, unless he left a note or told someone his plan, we may never know the exact motive.
There is never a good time for this, but so soon to Christmas just makes it all the more tragic.
My heart goes out to all that were touched by this.
Is everybody ready?

I realize that the tragic death of Darrell Abbott generates some strong opinions. I have deleted posts, no doubt highly relevant in other forums, that are really beyond the scope of this forum. I mean no disrepect to anyone who posted here and am making no comment on the validity of their comments.

Well done Peter...thankyou.
Condolences to all touched by this tragic loss.
'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.
