Cave Passive Pedal Tour "Last Call"

Post by weemac »

Rightio. The tour is nearly over and it will be great to wrap it up. But just to check:
Is there anyone who really wants to give it a go before we determine who gets to keep the little critter?

The response from folks who have tried have been mixed but overall really positive. And strange as it sounds it seems to give off its best on Solid State amps :o

So LAST CALL!

Maybe those who found nothing in the pedal should be given a second chance for redemption?

Otherwise, and to keep it simple. I have to unabashedly say that I feel I got the most out of the pedal's capabilities and would love to have the B-Drive permanently in my setup, I would probably have it on all the time it sounded that good. 8)

No,ME!pick me! 8)

I did really like the pedal, one thing i meant to try while i had it was hooking it directly into the output jack of the bass via a male-to-male double jack to see if that helped boost the input. Plus it would have been cool to have the controls right at hand for instant tweking.

I would like to claim it as a paperweight to spite the others who actually enjoyed it. Kidding! May it go to a good home.

I really liked the pedal very much. I wish timing was good to use it at a gig or jam while I had it.

I really liked it when I had it. I was thinking of getting one pretty seriously. But unfortunately I've thought about it, and since I use gate and compression pedals, the effect would be totally ruined by my setup. It was effective when used by itself though!

Jason, what were you plugging the CAVE into?

Just the amp - a little Ampeg (USA) PortaBass 228 combo amp. It's small enough to Metro with but loud enough to play a small club.

I know I'm way late to the party, but Joey's been singing its praises and I wouldn't mind gigging it a bit.

I shipped the pedal of to JB yesterday. He should have it Thursday. I didn't get to see any of the items given by each member since Jason shipped them of separately, but I'm curious as to what everyone added. Since I'm in Richmond VA, I added a Confederate flag, a post card of Main Street Station, and a pack of Marlboros.

As for the pedal, I liked the fuzz, but found the response I got out of it varied greatly based on what amp I was using. I could barely hear the fuzz when using an Ampeg V4 head with either a Rickenbacker Transonic or Avatar cabinet. The fuzz was a little more noticeable when using a Markbass LM Tube head. The greatest sound I got from the pedal was when using a Rickenbacker RB-30 amp. I also noticed that using a compressor prevented the pedal from fuzzing.

I thought one of us would have been handing if off to the other or Jonathan, so I was surprised that you weren't already in line to try it out.

Ah, SS. Beginning to really wonder about the SS vs Tube possibility for success. Erik's experience seems to back this up too.

Well It would mean JB would send back across the country, Or I could just add you to the list to be the luck one to keep it..

I'm thinking it would have to be a lottery with an expression of interest from folks who tried it, to be in the hat. Does anyone think this is a fair idea?
