Sorry for the delay in getting to this, I had computer problems, etc. that prevented me from posting this when it happened last year. I spotted the file on the computer and decided to address this now.
When I was watching NCIS on October 30,2012, I spotted a familiar shape in the foreground in one scene:
Unfortunately, we see the instrument only from this perspective. My problem is that the instrument appears to be too short to be a Rickenbacker bass.
Any ideas?

Re: What was on NCIS?
Well, it appears to have 4 tuners, so it's not a 480 type. Maybe it's just a tall counter and the camera angle that makes it look too short to be a bass...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

It's a Rick bass. The perspective is what is throwing the eye. There's a lot of floor between the guy with the flying V and the camera and the aspect is zoomed in a bit. No mysterious oddball model there.

From memory the bass was in the background in the same scene when a different camera angle was used, and it was a 4003 FG - unless my mind is "filling in the details" - a common neurological phenomenon!
