New JangleBox pedals

Here is a question primarily about using the Janglebox Byrds model with a Tonelab SE and a '68 RIC 340. I just spoke with the nice people at Janglebox and ordered the Byrds model Janglebox (they have suspended the regular JB2) to use with my RIC 340. I have been using a Vox Tonelab SE and 3 Pathfinder 15Rs to get the sound I want, but now I want to add the JB compression to get "that" sound. So, are there any recommendations from the group about where to add the Janglebox to the signal chain? Should I use the Send/Receive loop from the Tonelab or run from the RIC to the Janglebox and then into the Tonelab or the reverse... RIC-->Tonlelab--> Janglebox?

Hi Chuck, I believe it's recommended to plug into the JB first with guitar straight into its Input.

It does make me smile though, many manufacturers suggest that their pedal go first in line. So it's just a case of how it works best for you and your ears

Compression is usually first, so I think that's right too.

I have a "boutique" compression pedal that I had always been disappointed in, until I moved it to first in my pedal chain, but after my Boss TU-2 tuner. The difference is dramatic, to say the least. Some things do matter.

Just another note to Steve Lasko: Didn't see any of those new pedals on your website. Have you gotten the patent issues out of the way? Any target date for the pedals to become available?

Jake, we're now in pre-production with three pedals, but it's not the three I originally planned on. Patent isn't an issue; our biggest problem at the moment is finding reliable, reasonably-priced U.S. contract manufacturers. These guys always moan about manufacturing going overseas, but we've found that many of them are so unprofessional it's no wonder they're losing work.

Anyway, these are two new pedals that should be for sale on our website in about six weeks:

• The J-Gate noise suppressor. Simple and intuitive. Easy-to-dial-in Threshold and Decay controls. Completely natural envelope response. Transparent audio signal. True bypass. Dead silent kill switch that will shut off your entire signal chain. Top-grade opto coupler control. Works great with electric, acoustic-electric and bass guitars.
  
  The JB3. All the features of the JB2 Byrds LE, but we added dual output, a more stable version of our IC chip and a soft mute switch. We also added a Release knob for the compression envelope so when you play a fast passage, the first note isn't dropped or clipped. For gearheads we have a "dying battery" sag simulator trimpot. It's sort of goofy, but DIY guys love it.

Two other pedals are still being tweaked a bit. One of them, a really terrific clean boost, is very close to completion. Also a mini-JangleBox is now in the works.

Even though I did not ask the question, I would like to be the first to express excitement for the new pedals! The noise suppressor seems like it will be the big seller. The JB3 seems like a great place to start if one is looking for the versatility of a Janglebox, but never tried one.

My question to you (and anyone with a JB 2 or Byrds LE, for that matter), is the sound of the Jangleboost similar to that of the Dallas Rangemaster treble booster?

Thanks, Steve. This clearly calls for a celebration. I've been very happy with all the aspects of my JB2, but the JB3 has enough extra bells and whistles that it just might be the right compressor for me. Will there be any price discounts for RRF members?

What about release dates in the UK?? I've no experience of a noise suppressor but it basically gets rid of the buzzing and feedback caused from other pedals/amp..right?? That would be great because my original JB does make a lot of buzzing noise especially when on bright even with attack and gain only just past half way.

David, when we release a pedal for sale on our website, it's a world-wide release. I pretty much assume that our two UK dealers, Rickysounds and Sound Affects Music, will be stocking all JangleBox products, but you can always purchase directly from us.

I only tried a Rangemaster once and I pretty well liked it as treble boosters go. But I never A/B'd it with our JangleBoost, so I can't really provide an objective comparison.

Since you haven't responded to my question, I take it there will be no special discounts for RRF members on the Noise Suppressor or the JB3. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
