The Double Bound 4005 eight string has to be extremely rare.

I am surprised to see you did not use a short pole toaster in the neck position of Graham's bass. Maybe I just expect that as that was what I was used to on my old one?

Also, interesting that Al chose to go with the standard Rickenbacker layout of bass up top on his DN.

Nice work on these instruments, regardless.

I played Graham's new 4005/8 when it was first delivered to him at MARF IV.

The pickups on Graham's bass were new off the shelf, as were the tuners, as these items were lacking on the basket case he provided. The bass plays much better now than it did at MARF, where the truss rods lacked proper adjustment and the neck hadn't settled in yet.

Al was specific about his choice of necks. I think he's planning on using this one on only a couple of songs. So, maybe only an hour at a time...

A finished '68 4001 going to Bryce in Canada today...

...this is the one that came to me with a butchered top and a Badass bridge installed. I milled 1.5mm off the top and laminated a 3-piece maple top to the body after filling all of the holes and some routs. I then re-routed, re-drilled and re-bound it. Cast tailpiece and bridge, and bridge surround, are replated. Tuners cleaned and polished. TI flatwound strings.

...and here's a cool Geddy Lee replica for Mike C. JG with vermilion case lining...what a combination!

Is that a Fender case, or did Ricks also come with the compartment offset like that so far from the upper horn? Also, didn't Geddy's bass have Grover Titans on it?

Ok, that was what was required to convince me the same process need to be done on the 68 I still have to send you.

Same here with my '75 4001. Although it may have to be 2mm...

I would guess that Bass needs some serious maple block inserts to prevent neck bowing and weakening...
