If i can go by the last couple of new cii's i played recently,i would say the new necks are slimmer and more c shaped. It seems like 4003 necks could get pretty chunky in the 80's. But i imagine if you took a cross section of any period, you would get a lot of variation anyway.

My 88 4003 has very thin and flat neck, seller said his 87's neck is way bigger. I played a few days ago on a recent one (not 2013 anyway) and it was pretty slim too, but not as my 88.

i have owned 80.s rics and i own a brand new 4004 cII The necks are very much alike the new neck on the 4004 is the same as the 4003 now so all depends on the natural variation in necks but if you played one you would not feel out of place on the other.
