Strings convo
Have any of you folks gotten a set of strings and placed them on only to find that one of the strings to have tone of being run thru a chorus pedal when it is really not being run thru a chorus pedal. The other Three strings sound correct... Any thoughts???? I have re strung the troubled string several times and still gives this effect.... thanks!!!
oh and it is the E string if that matters....

Re: Strings convo
That is usually a sign of a twisted string, as in twisted while stretching it from the bridge to the tuning key, but given that you have removed it and put it back on three times now it is probably just a bad string. It happens and the string maker should send you a replacement, they are all good about that, I think.
Re: Strings convo
What Jeff said. Don't wrap your strings around your tuner posts. Take the time to crank them to tension with the key wind.

Re: Strings convo
Thanks for the input...... Is weird they are from a demonstration pack (not on the market yet) The company emailed me and asked if i wanted to trial them out and then send them my thoughts and the strings back after 10 weeks of using them.
In my initial opinion i e mailed to them the problem i was haveing and they have yet to respond..... I think i will cut the trial period short and send them back. In my efforts the company is supposed to give me an online coupon for 40 dollars from Just strings, com to get a replacement for the time and effort etc.... So i though it not a bad deal to try out a set for em.

Given the fact that you're getting a $40.00 coupon just for trying the strings out, I'd go ahead and use them. That's gotta be worth a couple sets from Just strings right there. I've had the chorus effect on an E string before, and found that it goes away after a couple practices.
Re: Strings convo
Similar to Dane... I've had this happen once or twice and breaking them in - a couple of days they effect seems to go away. maybe they un-twist or whatever..

Re: Strings convo
It sounds to me like the experiment is getting funky with multiple wrap layers. That works for flats, and Thomastik-Infeld has perfected it on their double bass Spirocore strings. But it takes a ton of quality control. It sounds like there is a reverse wind in there somewhere, kind of like how wool cloth manufacturers make "worsted" wool. But that doesn't always work for musical instrument strings, and it may have gotten cross-ways in the wrap, causing the string to vibrate inconsistently.
Ask them to send you another E string so you can compare the two, and tell them you won't complete the survey without it because of all the trouble you have had. Yes, there is a $40 gift certificate at stake, but if the company is that serious about R&D and marketing the new string, I'd call their bluff. I think they will send you one.

Re: Strings convo
Well after all of your careful thoughts and in put folks. I decided to take the string off yet once again and re string it. I laid the string out and methodically took extra long long in winding it etc... and now the problem is gone
I had them on for almost 2 weeks and relaeased tension and restrung. This time i took it completely off and laid it out and spun it around and re strung her...
Thanks for your helpful insight everyone!!!!!!
