I've already got GAS for something that's four years away, when I'll finally get a lefty Ric 330 or 360 12-string. A second Ric bass will have to come after that.

So..if someone is wanting to swap your 4001 for a c64,i would go for it,if you like the feel and sound of the new bass. I've played a few of them, and even tho i'm not a fan of the upside down headstock look, they are really nice basses. Plus, they seem to command a higher price than a mid 70's 4001. I would of course check the c64 out for any issues.

I have both version of the red+ black 4003, the 4003s,
I have to say as eye candy the 4003 with binding and triangle inlays are appeasing, but to play the 4003s rocks, the bass is just so nice and smooth and the necks feel more solid, many who own them agree and will pay more for one, I do hope they bring them back In to the line up.

No, no one has offered a trade. I just wondered about it. I am thinking of swapping pups to something more Sgt. Pepper-ish. Any pup recommendations welcome.

It wouldn't take much to give me GAS. But before I can buy another bass, I'm going to try and get this one as close as I can to the vintage McCartney. I have a buddy who's going to check the output of my stock pups. I'm pretty sure the output is too low. I've adjusted them higher and lower, to no avail. So I may have to change pups. What pups would you recommend to try to get the tones on Sgt. Pepper / Wings Over America?

A scatter wound toaster and a good set of flat wound strings will get you 95% of the way there....
Don't forget that your bass has tone knobs as well...

Scatter wound toaster--Rickenbacker or another manufacturer?

Rickenbacker of course. The current scatter wound toaster is not really any different to the 60s ones save for degaussing due to age (which they tend not to do anyway)
They are directly available from Rickenbacker....

They have a very even pure sort of sound. Clear but without the stun gun sound of the hi-gain pickups...

I just tweaked my amp a lot, and I was getting such great tones from my Ric. I've got GAS for the vintage pups now, so when they come back in stock, I'll try them out.
