When I think Rickenbacker the first image that comes to mind is the Fireglo finish. After looking at these photos it's no wonder. Thanks for posting these great images. :)
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I agree. Fireglo is the essential Rickenbacker finish.

Here's a couple of XK's (November '84): a 4001 FG and a 4003s MG.

Watch those teeth, Marlin. I'm not sure we've properly sedated the beast . . .

I've posted this shot before, but here are three Fireglos: A 1997 4001V63 (sold it a couple of years back), a 2007 Amber Fireglo 4003, and a 1997 4004L with some mods.

Beautiful instruments Paul!!!

Would any of these be considered what I've heard referred to as "Clown-Glo"?

Not so much. The spread of the burst is more gradual than what shows in most photos. "Clown glo" seemed at its peak in the early oughts. I think Ron O'Keefe will permit me to reproduce his photo here of the back of two 4001C64s in his collection. The one on the left is from 2006, the "clown glo" one on the right is from 2005:

Thanks Jim!

Still have the FL. That's a bass I bought with sentimental reasons, so it's highly unlikely it will ever leave the farm. It's condition still puts a smile every time I get it out also...

Ok Andrew,
I'll settle for any of them in that picture ....

I had my hands on a wonderful Fireglo FL at one point last year at Bass NW in Seattle and like an eegit I let it pass .... hitting head against wall on that, doesn't even help either !

Apologies for the slip up! Please remove Joey!
