Gibson ES-339
A guy at my office is a guitar collector and he's thinning out the herd. He offered to sell me a near-mint Gibson ES-339 (he said it was one of the first produced so I'm assuming the model year is 2007 or so) for $500. I'm mainly a bass player, but I dabble in 6 string guitars and I love to expand my collection when the price is right. From an initial internet search to check pricing for the ES-339 (new and used), this seems to be an incredible deal. Even if I'm not going to play it frequently, should I jump on this opportunity to get a decent semi-hollow body guitar on the cheap? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Buy it.
Re: Gibson ES-339
Thanks, guys. I figured this is too good of a deal to pass up.

Any Gibson for 500$ is a good price for a USA instrument. You can at the very least sell it for more than that on eBay.

Really nice guitars, but upper fret access can be tight.
I had one and it sounded great, but RAS took over.
$500 is a mega steal!

Super! Thanks for all of the advice. The guy is bringing the guitar to work tomorrow for me to check it out. Apparently, he already has the Larry Carlton signature model and he said he can't justify hanging on to the 339.
As an aside, this guy (who's a big time lawyer with gobs of money) has some really great instruments which he's seemed to pick up for incredible deals. In particular, he has two Petros guitars that he acquired for something like $3,000 for the pair before Petros started making guitars for Paul Simon and his prices went astronomical. I guess he's just passing a good deal on to a fellow musician. I've also done some work for him in the past and I hooked him up with a few out-of-print Jim Hall records so I think he appreciated that. It's good to have friends in (somewhat) high places.
