I think you will regret it (as in no zero fret like a REAL Gretsch)

Everyone knows zero frets are the most important thing to look for when buying. The tone enhancement is most noticable when playing anywhere from the first fret up.

it's called: "to save a buck...." or maybe: "to not spend a buck..." or maybe: "nobody's gonna notice it doesn't have a zero-fret..." or maybe: "too much trouble to put a zero fret...".

I used to dream of an SG Custom with a zero-fret.

that's not your fault, blame the guitar's maker.

if we go back a few years: Gretsch came with zero-frets, Hofner came with zero-frets, Mosrite came with zero-frets, Magnatone came with zero-frets, even Japanese Kent came with zero-frets. Other guitar makers favored the zero-frets but I can't remember who they were. Not that a zero-fret is absolutely neccessary, but it sure makes for more confortable action if not an easier-playing instrument.

there are 2 contradicting schools-of-thought on the matter of the zero-fret:

1) it is more expensive and time-consuming to do a fingerboard WITH a zero fret because it requires more precision.
2) it is more expensive and time-consuming to do a fingerboard WITHOUT a zero-fret because it requires more precision.


don't know who is right but I prefer guitars with zero-frets.
