Yes, I recall this too. Don't have any info. One was shown at NAMM circa 2000 or so?

Re: Late 1990's - RIC talk of reissuing lap steels?
I'm guessin' that with the backlog situation, any thoughts of expanding to make some lap steels got scrapped...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Yeah.... reissue them so we can all cannibalize them for horseshoes like the vintage lap steels.
Serious though - people don't value the original lap steels, can't imagine reissuing them would make any sense.

At that time we produced about 100 pieces, all of which we taken by our Japanese distributor. One of these was given to the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, California and it still part of an interactive display there.jdogric12 wrote:I vaguely recall this... obviously AFAIK it never happened. There's still 30 or 40 bodies left over from this run, as well as most parts. Someday when there's nothing better to do we might finish these off but, bottom line, it's hard to justify taking away production time for these low-cost instruments when we have so many order for more profitable items.

Wow, very cool info, Mr. Hall, thanks!

I LOVE my old Electro & have it tuned C6. I'm going to have to take my Stevens bar go check out the one at the museum in Carlsbad, my folks live close by. If you ever get around to those 30 or 40 bodies left over consider me interested.
