Speaking of which, I don't know which of my instruments to bring. I can only manage a few. Any requests?
All I wanna do is rock!

Re: 2013: Another Bay Area (BARC)...Again, one of these days
Hi folks,
I've yet to attend one of the BARCs, but would really like to this year!
Who would I contact and what would the "entrance fee" be? On a potential plus side, I do play drums. Have the early-session duties been fulfilled yet? Perhaps I could sit-in... Will a kit be on-site? I don't know if I could bring mine, as I planned on taking my RICs and Vox-type amp as well, and space is limited in my car. Anyways, let me know- this could be fun!

Mike, it would be great to have you be our lead-off drummer !
We just share the cost of renting the facility .... estimated to be $20 or less per person, depending upon the number of attendees.
We have a drum kit provided with the studio... no need to bring a drum kit. But maybe bring your favorite cymbals as I don't remember what they provide.
Bring your Rics and amp.... and sufficient guitar stands
Looking forward to having you join the fun !
By the way, where do you hail from ?

Re: 2013: Another Bay Area (BARC)...Again, one of these days
Hi all,
I am going to have to announce my regrets; a friend of the band I'm in (Smiling face down), and a personality in the local vintage bike scene with a lot of vintage motorcycleing friends, Karla Munoz, was killed a couple of days ago when a careless driver into the lane she was riding in. Smiling face down's been asked to play a benefit show for her on May 18th locally, at Alex's Bar in Long Beach, so I won't be able to go to BARC.
Here she is riding a vintage BMW in a test shot for Harley Davidson:

Sorry to hear about the death of a friend in the vintage motorcycle community.
That's nice that SFD will play a benefit gig for the occasion.

Generally, it's about $20 each to cover costs, IIRC, but, at least at So Cal events, drummers play free, and are plied with top-shelf booze and free snacks. . . .skelt101 wrote:Hi folks,

Thanks for the welcoming post! Sounds like a good time will be had by all! I'll be sure to bring my Rics, amp and stand. Is there a certain style and/or setlist that will be played?8mileshigher wrote:Mike, it would be great to have you be our lead-off drummer !![]()

Sounds like a good deal for the drummers! Too bad I don't make it down there as often as I would like. However, I do have family in the area, so maybe I can swing it next time!paologregorio wrote:Generally, it's about $20 each to cover costs, IIRC, but, at least at So Cal events, drummers play free, and are plied with top-shelf booze and free snacks. . . .skelt101 wrote:Hi folks,

As for songs or "set list" ..... its a Jam, so anything can happen .... likely could be Classic Rock, British Invasion, Jangle-Pop and New Wave type tunes from the 60s, 70s, and 80s era. Or maybe the opposite .... surf instrumentals, bluesy solos or maybe some jazz-like jams free from the Top 40 single structure ??
Probably always a dose of tunes by Rickenbacker identified artists such as Beatles, Byrds, Searchers, The Who, Creedence, Jefferson Airplane, Yes, Tom Petty, R.E.M., The Smithereens, Weller The Jam, The Church, The Plimsouls, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Smiths, etc.
And then again there can be songs by bands that do not necessarily have Rickenbacker identification such as Hendrix, Cream, Chuck Berry, Stones, Stevie Ray, Humble Pie, ZZ Top, Allman Bros, Pink Floyd, Lynrd Skynyrd, Grateful Dead, Dire Straits, Marshall Tucker, R&B Motown, or who knows ...
To conceptualize some song ideas offered at a So Cal Ric Jam .... check this spread sheet out from last year:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... fUFE#gid=0 not necessarily the same tunes would happen at BARC, but the ideas list might be representative of some of the songs the some jam attendees might be familiar with ?
Maybe Kira or Doug or Gareth or Harry or Steve, etc. can chime in here with some song ideas ....
> I might add that we can never go wrong with "three-chorder" tunes at a Jam <
