Actually, two questions... First, we recently acquired a JG 325v59 (previously owned, beautiful condition) and I've noticed the interior of the silver case is a navy blue pile, and is different from the "luminous" blue plush in the case for our 360/12v64.
It's not a complaint, as both cases are great, but I must admit the "luminous" plush is a bit more impressive! Now, the 360 was manufactured in 1997; the 325 in 1996. Does the year make any difference in the type of pile used, or is it a matter of the different model?
Second question: the 325 is a bit thicker in dimension than the 360 (and I know that this is as it's supposed to be), yet the cases are the same "depth"... yielding a somewhat tighter fit for the 325; nothing serious, but it's definitely a little bit of a "squeeze" to close the case, as opposed to the "just right" feel of the 360.
Does anyone know if this is completely "normal" (i.e: has it always been this way)? As we purchased the 325 second-hand, it's at least possible that something got switched along the way... although it's obviously an authentic Rick case, so a "switch" wouldn't seem to make sense...
I appreciate hearing any thoughts !
Cheers,
Gene

My guess is, regarding the type of "pile" the case lining has, is that it's an availability
issue with the case company. I', too, have seen these 2 different appearing materials. Even in the 60s, this was, uh,excuse the pun, the "case".
There's no right or wrong here, though any of us may aesthetically prefer one type over the other. However, if you order a new case, you are at the mercy of whatever is being used.

Hello Gene, regarding your second question. A couple of months ago I aquired a 325v59.(I'm so glad that I finally bought it.) Anyways, it came in the silver tolex case which doesn't close cleanly. I have to sort of squeeze the last 3/4" or so. I've attributed this to the Bigsby, although that might be wrong. Even though I crank it around so that the end is in the corner of the case, I still have to pressure the case closed. And it seems as if the resistance is more at that end of the case. Anyways, that's my theory. I don't recall if the lining is the "luminous" or the other. For my two cents, the interiors of the cases could use a little thicker padding. The vintage case is not so bad, but the molded case that I got with a 360/6 has very little padding, if any, under the lining. If I stand the guitar in the case on it's strap button while I'm wiping it off, it feels as if the lining is going to rip. Oh well. As always, best regards to all you Rickheads.
