That is a pretty ingenious idea - what does it do to the sound?
Lindsay - I'm in a band that's just starting to get out and about. We play a lot south of Springfield. Like in the Carlinville and Farmersville local eating/drinking establishment (and that's being kind). It's made up of my brother and another set of brothers who play drums and lead guitar. Good word of mouth so far...

This is for Lindsay - the band I'm a part of has a gig this Friday (12/17/04) in Farmersville at McGuire's on the square. We start at 9pm. The 4003JG will be present and laying down the groove. LOL - my wife would much rather be at the black tie party instead of sitting in a smokey bar watching her watch. She is the best roadie though. She usually has me packed up and ready to before any one else!

I use the mute sometimes, you can get a nice stand up bass effect with it, and McCartney used it a lot if that helps you. I have a friend who has a piece of foam rubber stuck between the strings and the body of his Fender bass right next to the bridge, it's been there forever and the bass sounds great. Nothings ever becomes really obsolete in music as everything comes back sooner or later. And I think Ronn's idea is best don't worry about opinions around here, if you like it do it. Unless of course if you want to do something like put extra heavy gauge strings on your 1965 4001. And yes there is a wealth of information in the archives although I think they are maybe at the new address already as I've noticed they are not here anymore.

Thank you all for the advise I've received. I'm becoming quite adept at moving that mute up and down as I prefer for some songs - such as "Taxman" and others - I do enjoy letting some notes ring out - especially on ones where I am carrying the melody or something similar
