TIMBER!

Post by bassduke49 »

Well, it's time to cut timber in the "Forest." For about 10 years I have been collecting Rick basses for my own enjoyment, and for help in illustrating my book, "The Rickenbacker Electric Bass - 50 Years as Rock's Bottom" (due out by early July 2013). I guess you could call me a collector, player, and appreciator of Rick basses. Since I am no longer playing (and with no prospects or a driving need to be in a band), the Ricks are not getting playing time as they should. It's time to get these instruments to others who can appreciate playing them or having them in their collections. I'm selling 15 basses; I'll hold onto my original 1972 ("Mink") and a few other favorites.

I am NOT (what they call in the real estate biz) a "motivated seller." I don't need to sell any of these right away to take care of sudden bills or to finance upcoming investments, etc. I don't need to make space in the house or any other emergency. My goal is to make these instruments available to those who want them and to at least break even on my Rick bass investments. I have set prices on each of the basses and I won't be accepting lower offers. I'll sell them to the first person who has money in hand. So you'll have to be "motivated buyers." If they don't sell, they'll sit in my music room until the right buyer comes along. Sorry, no Best Offers or Trades, thank you.

The sale will start at the Midwest Rickenbacker Confluence (MRC) and "The Rickenbacker Electric Bass" Launch Event (TREBLE), July 19-21 here in Milwaukee (Oak Creek) Wisconsin. I will be displaying all 20 of my Rick basses there, and attendees will be afforded first shot at purchasing and toting the basses away. I will not be selling the basses before that time, so if there is something here that you want, I urge you to come to Milwaukee. Sorry, no deals for multiple purchases. I can't take credit cards, but will accept PayPal electronically, cash, or if I know you well enough, personal check. What doesn't sell at the Confluence will be offered here, and I'll post a notice after the confluence of what is left available.

All of the basses include the cases they came in. Most were bought used, but the instruments are in near-mint condition unless otherwise noted. Some have been modified or reconditioned, and I'll state what those mods are in each description. I bought some of the basses from Forumites, some on eBay, and a few new from RIC dealers. I don't feel comfortable doing setups, and since setups can be more of a personal thing, final tweaking will be left to the buyer to handle. None of the instruments are "unplayable," but things like neck profile and action height vary and will be difficult to define with words and photos. And please don't ask me how they sound; too many variables and way too subjective for analysis.

With each purchase, I will enclose a full-color page (or pages) proof from the book with that bass' photo on it, suitable for framing (!). (One bass for sale was not in the book.) Basses sold and taken away at the Confluence will include a free autographed copy of the book (!!!).

This is the general notice of the sale, and each of the 15 basses for sale will be posted individually with price and photos (over the next few days). Again, basses will not be sold before the Milwaukee Confluence July 19-21. Any questions, please PM or e-mail me.

I'll repeat this notice in the Bass section, but the individual listings will be in the For Sale section only.

That in itself is generous.

Paul,

Are you still thinking about holding a confluence at PotR in the fall?? Wonderful assortment of basses. I love the CS and of course the Shadow and the Blackstar. I'm glad you are holding onto your 72. that maybe the one bass I'd have to have if offered for sale.

Chris Clayton would be the one to ask about any event at POTR. I would not be involved in hosting it as such, but we talked about me being there to celebrate the release of the book. He wanted to talk with some of the locals about doing it. Right now, I'm keeping weekends in September open, but there is no date set yet.
