I have had the good fortune (Through This forum) to acquire a new member for the Fleet. Dane Wilder has sold me his 4004cii 5String. This is an oustandingly beautiful instrument. (Once I get my buddy to photograph it) I will post some pics. Here are the details as related to me by Mr. Wilder
Mods include conversion to 5-string using Hipshot Ultralite tuners, a modified Rickenbacker tailpiece and bridge. Rickenbacker 4003 bridge pickup mount, surround, and cover. (the bass was properly routed for this as well as the tailpiece). Audere 4 band pre amp modified to use vintage style knobs. This preamp enables you to zero in on the B string and rumble the house! For playing in dark venues I've added Fret FX led position markers to the side of the neck. The truss rod cover is a reshaped vintage RIC plexi one. The pickguard is styled after the 4004 RCA basses. The original gold jack plate was swapped with RIC for a polished stainless one with the same serial number. The rear access cover is also clear acrylic back painted white just like the guard.
Dealing with Dane was a pleasure. Great communications throughout, the bass was shipped with care and I could not be happier. The preamp in this bass just kicks royal A...
Now.. learning how to play with one extra string is the challenge as this is the 1st 5 string I have owned...Worse comes to worse, I have another place to rest my thumb...so far so good.

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
