mirror image - back in time

Post by hieronymous »

I haven't been around here in a long time, but this picture came out of the recent BARC but I thought it would fit here!

Image

My 1976 4001 Autumnglo on the left, Lefty4001's 1993 4003S LH on the right.

It's like they're from parallel universes - "the same but different" - I really like the fact that in a way they are mirror images, especially the headstocks which is no guarantee - but that they differ in minor but significant details. Would've been sweet if he had his Mapleglo '74!

I also recently posted an older recording of the 4001 from 2007 - we must have recorded the bass on two channels - one clean and one with distortion (Fulltone Bass Drive) - you can hear them panned separately on headphones:

To be honest I haven't been playing the Ric much at all. Started a new band - instrumental jazz/funk trio, guitar/bass/drums - and have been using other basses for that.

Butthurt much? So you put a lefty next to a righty. Mirror images? Hardly. If they were the same finish and model that may be closer to what you may have been going for. And they're pretty standard models. You posted a recording from 2007... ancient in this era! And you posted that you're NOT playing Ricks anymore. Maybe you're right, this isn't the forum for you? I agree traffic is in the toilet here, and it's nothing like it used to be, but geez, I still post and enjoy brief diversions here throughout my workday. But I don't get my feelings hurt if no one replies to my totally awesome photo. Cool off and stick around. We appreciate your contributions even if we don't give you a standing ovation every time.

Wow, JDog. No need to be a jerk here, is there?
If it is to be, it is up to me.

Hi Harry - sorry not to have seen your post - thanks for posting the cool pic. 8)

Sometimes threads get lost due to a flood of posts coming in at around the same time. It's a drag :( , but I wouldn't take it personally. For my own part I seem to be a serial thread killer. Must be my digital halitosis....

Hey, Harry,

Stuff happens. Sorry I missed this first time around. But I think I speak for everyone when I say we value your participation. Don't take it personally. :)

I would have replied, but all I can think is that I look good. Look how cut I am brother!

And to post that would be conceited and a bit dickish. And no one likes a dick.

I hate to bump this one back up but felt I should respond.

I feel no ill-will towards Jason - I just wanted any kind of response and he gave it to me - in more ways than one!

I definitely learned a lot through this experience - interesting to watch how the different forums (manufacturer centered, official, general bass, other instruments) work differently. I definitely feel like a thread-killer myself very often. If I could do it all over again, I think I would just post the picture with minimal commentary. But then again, my initial post was very "me" and if it falls flat, then that says something about my relationship with the forum, which is why I am most likely going to go back into RickResource hibernation.

But I wanted to apologize for creating this mess - though it's probably a lot bigger in my own mind than to anyone else. I foresee myself hanging on to my autumnglo 4001 for as long as I am able, and even if I am not playing it now in my current project, it will definitely be used when the music calls for it. BARC included, if you will have me!

+1 what Kira said ! Hang in there buddy !! I like the parallel universes commentary about RH and LH instruments.
Your Kappa Highway tune has a haunting, eeriness. It would be good for a film soundtrack.
Don't go into RickResource Hibernation ....

"..... if you will have me!"

welcome to the Isle of Misfit Toys! Where the creed is 'you probably wouldn't want us as neighbors unless you like really low sounds!' Don't bother memorizing it as it will probably change tomorrow....

BTW - both bass look really good!

Definitely not a big mess...

And the reason nobody commented at first? We were all totally speechless at such rare and wondrous beauty...
Yeah, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

One thing's for sure, don't take this or any internet forum too seriously. It's all for fun anyway. So, if ya ain't havin' fun, take a break. Or better yet, do like I do and make some inane comment that you think is funny and watch who laughs... or doesn't...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
