I don't like contours either. Not sure what it is but it feels weird. If I ever do a Warmoth Fender for fun, it'll be slab for sure.

This Czech-made BaCH faker has the 4004-with-binding look mentioned in the OP.

Hope I don't break any rules here posting a faker pic. This is only for the purpose of discussion.

I dont see the point of binding on a 4004.

I have to agree here; lots of folks keep asking for S versions of basses and now they want binding on what is basically a S body. :?

Binding is probably the coolest looking thing on a 4003 minus the overall shapes, and it really accentuates the curves. I'm just not a contour guy myself. I feel like 4004s look a bit like toys.

I love the LOOK of the body binding,(especially if its checkerboard),but find it, bound fretboards, and slab bodies to be physically distracting and uncomfortable. It's why i don't have my 4002,Danelectro Hodad, italia Rimini,or '68 Telecaster bass anymore. I know the people i sold those to appeciated them though....

I have to say, I'm in the binding camp. I love the look of it and have never had any issue with the feel, etc. I love my 4004 too, but I think it would look better with binding.

So, it seems there are those that love binding and those that don't like it at all...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Definitely the best. I sure wish they'd bring that back as an option...

Me three (or four or five, I can't tell which), given I have binding on the front edges of both my Martin Keith basses, too. 8)
