Cover bridge poll
Rickenbacker guitars have a cover bridge that many of us like to remove from the guitar.
Some other players let the cover bridge in its place.
Personnaly, since i've been playing my first Ric in 1986, i removed this bridge.
It has always bothered me for playing.
What about you ?
Sorry if this poll has been done before but i haven't been able to find it.

Think that part of the guitar looks messy when the bridge cover is removed...I like it where it is

Re: Cover bridge poll
I agree, this piece is a part of my guitar that I don't want to remove, as the saddle are not so good looking...
And with a little practice, it's not a problem for palm mute !

Depends on the guitar. I like 'em on 325s but not on my 330. Gets in the way of palm muting.

Re: Cover bridge poll
It seems that Pete Townshend belonged to the camp of "i remove the bridge"

Maybe Roger Mc Guinn too.

But not George Harrison.

Part of the reason for having the cover . . . is so you can take it off if you prefer. If it wasn't supplied standard, then there'd be the hassle of getting the part and installing it.

I leave it. One wrong move and you'll scrape yourself to pieces. (At least I will.)

Looks better on. Feels better on. And won't get lost if you leave it on.
There's really, no reason to take it off - hey, it's a Ric, not a Tele!

All I wanna do is rock!
Re: Cover bridge poll
I remove them on my twelves and have no doubt that it gives me more control over palm muting that trying to do it around the cover. However, they have been deburred, either by Mark Arnquist or me following his instructions and there are no sharp edges on them.
Re: Cover bridge poll
I guess that anything that I want to do with my palm can be done right in front of the cover just as easily. I never thought much about it, actually, until I started hanging around guitar forums.
I'll just adapt to what I have in my hands, usually.

What, you mean guitar forums actually can have an affect one one's playing style?kiramdear wrote:I guess that anything that I want to do with my palm can be done right in front of the cover just as easily. I leave them on. For some reason, I have no trouble playing with the covers on a Ric but I cannot play a Telecaster if the ashtray cover is on.
