Rick bass weigh-in

Post by bassduke49 »

And in this corner . . .
I discovered my wife had a kitchen scale that measured up to 20 pounds, so I decided to find out what each of my basses weigh. Frankly, I was surprised to find out that all were within one pound of each other. Coming in at the light end was the '93 Cheyenne 4004C (original) due to it's predominantly walnut body at 7 lb. 10 oz. Next lightest was my old '72 "honeyglo" 4001 at 8 lb. 5 oz. Then my brand new Monte 4003VP at 8 lb. 6 oz., and suprisingly at the heavy end was the '97 Laredo 4004L at a lumbering 8 lb. 10 oz.!

Now, if weight is a big deal to you, all the above are positively ponderous compared with the Hofners, which weigh in at between 4 lb. 8 oz. and 4 lb. 10 oz. Light as feathers and about as fragile.

Never liked Hofners, never will.

I dunno, maybe it's because I don't like Paul.

I'm just gonna assume that my 4001 & 4003 are in the same ball park as yours Paul. My T-bird is pretty light & my jazz bass ain't so bad.

What I wanted to share with you was the weight of my 1978 3001....12 whopping pounds!

No wonder my back hurts all the time.

As an approximate measurement (standing on the bathroom scales holding the bass) my CS and '73 4000 both weigh in at around 8lbs 9oz (bear in mind the CS hasn't got the shoes on); my 72 4001 is approx 8lb 7oz (but feels lighter). As for a 12lb Rick - medic!!!You have my sympathies Chris! Can't weigh my V63 as that has now been sold....

Jaymi and Jim, hey guys, don't worry, you're both (?) top of the list! Unfortunately the buyer for the 4000 had to back out due to personal reasons, but as I sold the V63 in the meantime (and didn't manage to get the 72 azure 4000 off e-bay)I got the money I needed, meaning at the present time the 4000 is no longer a necessary sale. But if that changes you'll be the first to know.
