I would be willing to buy a disk of the archives as well.

Peter,
I wanted to extend a well done on your forum. I am amazed at your ability of self-control. I also believe you act responsibly as a moderator defusing hostile or perceived hostile posts. Keep it up. I look forward to the "new" forum.

It may be difficult to keep the archives online, but I believe it is very valuable information. Before I became a member here and started posting, I read every single thread in the archives and learned an astounding amount. In fact, I think I know more about Rics than any other guitar - and I have books on all the others. I do not have a Ric book, however.

Reading all that stuff is what made me want to join and I think it should be available to the general lurking public, that perhaps just want info and don't want to be part of the forum.

If not - I'd like a disc for myself. I find myself going back to the archives searching for a particular JH post or Arnquist post, from time to time.

I would like to get a copy on disc if it won't be available online.

In the immortal words of Paul Westerberg :
"I'll Buy."

I think we have enough pre-orders for an initial run.

I think the problem here may be the Basses forum, where the number of posts has grown rapidly and just exploded in the past year. Yet many of those posts are about eBay auctions long gone or private sales and trades no longer of interest. And the photos! Some people have posted the same photos multiple times, and they eat up RAM. That's fine when it's instructive, but some of those just need to be edited out.

And the way the Basses forum archives have grown, 6 months from now Peter will be in the same situation again and need to archive again. So you'll be wanting another CD in 6 months.

So my thought is not to put anything on CD. Instead, I suggest that Peter ask for volunteers to edit archived posts under his direction and guidelines, to remove threads, posts and photos that are no longer relevant or necessary. As these are done, they could be put in a library of archived discussions. Or Peter could do all the work himself. ;)

JMHO.

Right but maybe if we each chip in say, $5.00 for an archived disc then that can also defray a little cost. Maybe some extra commentaries on posting and pix etc....

Not that you want to add topics... how about a "On the 'Bay" topic to handle all the eBay related posts?

I have to echo Spencer Wilson, I think the archives are what really hooked me also when I first started coming around. I was amazed at the wealth of info in there and at the answers to questions that I had had for a long time. I had owned many Rics and had for a long time, but was amazed at the stuff in the archives. If they cannot be kept on the site I too would like copies, but Dave is right, we would all need copies every 6 to 12 months probably. If nothing else I would too like to see Ask a Ric Luthier and The vibrola archives be kept online.
